The Position

The Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies is seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to contribute to the ARC DP26, ‘Australians and the Past Revisited’ led by Professor Laurajane Smith. The successful candidate will develop independent and collaborative research, the role will involve working with CIs on developing and coding a large social survey; the role will include undertaking social media analysis, interviewing and participating in focus groups, thought collectives and help with the transcription of interviews. The position will assist with Ethics applications, help with coding, organisation of data and preparation for publications; support organisation and running of symposium and the development of journal special issues/edited collections and present and participate at conferences and contribute to publications.

The Person

The successful applicant will hold a PhD in either History, Heritage/Museum Studies, Sociology, Politics, media studies or a related field. They should have an interest in modern Australian history, oral history, interdisciplinary research and ideally have experience of survey research/mixed methods research. They should have a demonstrated track record of research and publications, an ability to communicate and interact effectively in a variety of contexts, including with staff, stakeholder groups and policy makers.

The School/Department

The Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies (CHMS) is a multidisciplinary community of scholars within the College of Arts and Social Sciences who undertake a dynamic and interdisciplinary research and teaching program.

The College/Division

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is one of six Colleges at ANU. The College, which is structured into two main research schools, offers degrees in more than 20 discipline areas and excels in research across the creative arts, humanities and social sciences. The College has a substantial international research presence and is a major source of national policy advice. Our academic staff are internationally recognised for their research, and 57 are members of the Australian Academy of the Humanities, the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia, or both. We also host 13 Australian Research Council Future Fellows and three ARC Laureates. A hub of vibrant activity, we host more than 270 lectures, concerts and exhibitions each year, most of which are open to the public. Our students, staff and graduates come from more than 60 nations, bringing a diversity of perspective to campus life.
