Job Description:
The Academic Program Specialist I is a full-time, grant-funded, and time-limited position within the Office of Academic Support (OAS), situated within the Office of Undergraduate Education and Student Success. This role is dedicated to supporting the implementation, administration, and evaluation of the University of Florida Student Support Services (UF SSS) program. Working under program leadership, the specialist coordinates academic initiatives, manages daily program operations, provides hands-on student support, and ensures full compliance with both institutional guidelines and federal grant requirements to promote student transition, retention, and timely graduation.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Student Support & Caseload Management
- Provide individualized academic coaching to an assigned student caseload to foster academic, personal, financial, career, and graduate school success.
- Monitor academic progress and implement early intervention strategies to support student retention and graduation.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources as needed.
- Offer guidance to current and prospective students, families, faculty, and staff regarding university policies, academic programs, admissions, financial aid, and campus resources.
- Support student assistants, graduate students, and volunteers working within the program.
Program Coordination & Operations
- Collaborate on design, implementation, and evaluation of academic support programs, departmental policies, procedures, and student success initiatives.
- Coordinate key student initiatives, including academic workshops, orientations, leadership development activities, outreach programs, and student success events.
- Assist with program development and facilitate instructional activities or educational workshops.
- Support student recruitment, intake, orientation, and eligibility verification processes for UF SSS participants.
- Develop promotional materials, outreach strategies, and program communications to increase student awareness and engagement.
- Author and edit program publications, materials, reports, and critical grant documentation.
- Serve as a central liaison among students, faculty, staff, and campus partners to strengthen program effectiveness and student support.
Program Assessment & Data Management
- Maintain accurate and confidential records within university information systems and SSS databases.
- Track program participation and academic benchmarks using university data networks.
- Collect and analyze program data to evaluate overall outcomes, assess program effectiveness, and propose operational improvements.
- Compile performance metrics, assessments, and documentation to satisfy institutional and grant reporting requirements.
Other Duties
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the overall mission of the Office of Academic Support.
Expected Salary:
Expected salary is $46,000 annually; commensurate with education and experience.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred:
Master's degree and two years of relevant experience.
Experience working with federally funded TRIO programs or other grant-funded student success initiatives.
Knowledge of program assessment, strategic planning, continuous improvement, and evaluation practices.
