Academic Success Coach
Job Description
Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Academic Success Coach in the School of Nursing. This position supports students within the School of Nursing to succeed academically. Efforts to help students are implemented through academic coaching, monitoring of student progress, workshops, orientations, support of the nursing course assistants, as well as other special initiatives to support the success of nursing students.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Facilitate individual success coaching meetings with nursing students, including needs assessment, barrier identification, instruction of skills and strategies, and referral to appropriate academic and support resources.
- Develop and monitor student success plans in collaboration with faculty.
- Teach students study skills and learning strategies to facilitate student success in individual and group settings.
- Respond to nursing student performance alerts through targeted outreach, needs assessment, and referral to appropriate academic and support resources.
- Monitor and analyze student success and retention.
- Make recommendations for process and quality improvements to the School of Nursing Student Success program.
- Assist in the selection, training, scheduling, evaluation, and monitoring of Nursing Course Assistant student workers.
- Support Nursing Course Assistants with Workday needs.
- Assist in the planning and execution of orientation of new nursing students.
- Coordinate and help facilitate events to support student academic success.
- Represent the School of Nursing at recruiting events as assigned.
- Serve on departmental and college committees required by the position or as assigned.
- Manage spreadsheets, reports, and other software for student success.
- Manage additional student success initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- One (1) year of experience working in educational environment supporting students (college student position may be considered).
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple ongoing projects and services simultaneously.
- Ability to manage sensitive information professionally and confidentially.
- Knowledge of best practices in study skills and test taking.
- Excellent computer and organizational skills.
- Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in education, leadership, or related field.
- Analytical skills.
- Experience working in student affairs.
- Experience providing Supplemental Instruction or tutoring support.
- Program management experience.
