Adjunct Faculty - Anatomy, Biomedical Sciences
Job Description:
Reporting to the Associate Dean for Pre-Clinical Education, this role provides subject-matter expertise to deliver instruction and support course development in biomedical sciences (Anatomy) as part of the KHSU-KansasCOM pre-clinical curriculum. Adjunct faculty may teach topics aligned with their specialization using innovative and diverse instructional methods in collaboration with the broader faculty team.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching (85%)
- Deliver instruction in assigned biomedical science and pre-clinical topics through lectures, small groups, and/or the Anatomy laboratory.
- Prepare and facilitate interactive learning sessions (e.g., case presentations, small group discussions, laboratory activities).
- Develop and assess educational content in alignment with course learning objectives and in collaboration with course leadership.
- Contribute to student assessment through the development and grading of quizzes, exams, and other evaluative tools.
- Utilize KHSU’s learning management system to manage content, student interaction, and assessments.
Service and Support Activities (15%)
- Provide academic support via office hours to students as required by KansasCOM.
- Attend assessment & exam review meetings, course review sessions for students, and course-related meetings with teaching faculty.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
None
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Terminal degree in a relevant biomedical science or medical field (e.g., PhD, DO, MD, DC).
- Demonstrated experience teaching biomedical or pre-clinical content in a medical or health sciences program.
- Familiarity with diverse instructional methods such as team-based learning, flipped classroom, and self-directed learning.
- Proficiency in using online learning platforms and instructional technologies.
- Preferred: Experience developing materials for COMLEX or USMLE preparation.
- Preferred: Minimum 3 years of experience in medical education.
