Position Summary
La Salle University's Biology program has a need for a highly qualified adjunct faculty to teach a section of our first-year introductory course for our Biology majors titled Scientific Discovery: Phage Hunting. The course is a course-based undergraduate research experience (CURE), a semester-long project where students isolate and characterize phages they sample from the environment. The class also introduces students to biology and common biology-laboratory techniques and procedures. The course is an integrated laboratory and lecture, and the ideal instructor would have experience in common cell and microbiology laboratory procedures and techniques.
The course is scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00 pm - 4:45 pm, starting 8/31/2026-12/11/2026 (final exams through 12/18/2026).
Essential Duties
- Teach assigned course(s).
- Prepare course materials consistent with departmental learning objectives.
- Provide timely grading and feedback to students.
- Provide guidance and support to students.
Required Qualifications
- Master's or PhD degree in a biology, or related field. A Master's or terminal degree in related degree in a field related to biology (MD, DO, etc) will also be considered.
- Proficiency in biology and microbiology laboratory techniques.
- Knowledge and commitment to the mission of La Salle University.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience or desire for teaching introductory biology courses, particularly at the college-level.
- Knowledge or experience teaching in biology, microbiology, cell biology, or related field.
Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours
- The job requires the ability to teach lecture or lab courses.
- The job requires movement around the classroom or laboratory.
