Description
The School of Professional Studies is seeking adjunct instructors to deliver in-person workforce training for MassBio's Bioversity program. This 8-week, noncredit program prepares adult learners for entry-level roles in biotechnology lab operations.
This role is designed for professionals with hands-on experience in laboratory operations, facilities, or support functions within biotech, pharma, or research environments. The instructor will translate real-world lab workflows into practical, job-ready training that prepares learners to succeed in roles such as lab technician, lab operations associate, or facilities support.
Students are non-traditional adult learners preparing to enter the biotech workforce. Instruction should emphasize applied skills, workplace readiness, and operational understanding over theoretical science.
- Teach on-site in Dorchester an estimated two days a week for 3-hour blocks between the hours of 9:30 am – 3:30 pm.
- Deliver engaging, hands-on training sessions focused on day-to-day lab operations, including:
- Lab safety and PPE in real-world environments
- Equipment use and maintenance (freezers, CO incubators, LN systems, etc.)
- Sample handling and storage workflows
- Receiving, inventory management, and material tracking
- SOP execution and documentation practices
- Translate complex lab environments into clear, accessible concepts for entry-level learners
- Emphasize how work gets done in a lab setting (workflow, communication, accountability)
- Facilitate practical exercises and simulations aligned to real lab scenarios, such as:
- Equipment handling and troubleshooting
- Inventory and materials management
- Following and writing SOPs
- Identifying and correcting operational errors
- Develop and administer effective assessments in a variety of formats on the key learning concepts
- Provide feedback to students regarding the subject matter and the professional skills needed to be hired and perform well in the workplace
- Ensure the course meets the high-quality standards of other MCPHS online and on-campus courses
- Identify tactics to improve the course based on feedback from its initial delivery
Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree in subject area or related field preferred.
- Hands-on experience in laboratory operations, lab support, facilities, or biotech/pharma environment
- Experience working with common lab equipment (e.g., freezers, incubators, LN, gas systems)
- Previous experience teaching and/or developing in-person training
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Commitment to supporting adult learners entering the workforce
Desired
- Experience teaching subject matter for students entering health professions
- Experience with a learning management system, such as Blackboard
- Experience with video-conferencing platforms, such as Zoom
Compensation
The pay range associated with this posting reflects the amount the University reasonably expects to pay for this role at this time. Salary offers are determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications as well as internal equity, market data and pay in comparison to similarly situated employees doing comparable work.
Hiring Range: $4,000 - $5,500
