Adjunct Faculty Evening - Continuing Education, (ECONOMICS), (FIRE SCIENCE MANAGEMENT), AY 2026-2027
Overview
Salem State University is seeking adjunct professors with interest and experience teaching fire science management courses. Teaching assignments will include include but not limited to, Fire Science Administration, Advanced Arson Detection and Prevention, Fire Service Law, Managing Community Based Fire Prevention Programs, Managing the Emergency Scene: Principles and Practices, Internship in Fire Science, other subjects will depend upon the expertise of the candidate and needs of the program.
Duties and Responsibilities
Work collaboratively with faculty, in a school with future-directed leadership and a collective focus on academic excellence, success of our students and faculty development.
- Teach Fire Science Management courses in online and/or in-person formats as assigned
- Collaborate with faculty in fire science management to support program goals
- Support student success through effective teaching, advising, and mentoring
- Contribute to departmental and university initiatives, including faculty development
- Maintain a collaborative and inclusive learning environment
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in fire science, public administration, emergency management, or a closely related field
- Minimum of ten (10) years of full-time firefighting experience in a Massachusetts fire department
- Successful completion of the Career Recruit Firefighter Training Program through the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy
- Certification as Firefighter I/II through the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board)
- Certification as Fire Instructor and Fire Officer through the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy and the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications (Pro Board)
- Demonstrated commitment to collaboration and collegiality
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching, advising, and supporting student success
Preferred Qualifications
- Terminal degree in fire science, public administration, emergency management, or a related discipline
- College-level teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level
- Experience teaching diverse and multicultural student populations
- Massachusetts Fire Chief credential issued by the Massachusetts Fire Service Commission
Working Location
This is an onsite position with potential on-campus, in-person responsibilities in Salem, MA as needed.
