Position Title: Adjunct Faculty, Music Business (History of the Recording Industry)

Full Time/Part Time: Part-Time
The Hofstra College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is pleased to invite applications for an Instructor in the Department of Music at Hofstra University. The Department of Music welcomes applications from candidates with expertise in the history of the recording industry and music copyright law.
The Instructor's responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Teaching an undergraduate course focused on the history of the recording industry, from the invention of the phonograph to contemporary digital and emerging technologies
- Introducing students to U.S. copyright law as it applies to musical compositions and sound recordings
- Addressing topics such as copyright ownership, duration, infringement, reversion rights, and evolving legal frameworks.
- Engaging students in analysis of current music industry issues, including artificial intelligence and recent copyright cases
- Developing and maintaining course materials, syllabi, and assessments aligned with departmental and university standards.
- Supporting efforts to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for faculty, staff, and students.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- And/or equivalent professional experience working in the music industry, music publishing, and expertise in music copyright
- Successful candidates will have demonstrated a commitment to promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in an educational environment.
