Adjunct - First Year Writing/College Composition (On Campus Applicant Pool)

The College of Science and Humanities at Husson University invites applications for a pool of part-time adjunct instructors to teach courses in writing, communication, literature, and related areas. Husson serves a diverse student population preparing for careers in healthcare, business, science, technology, and the professions, and we seek instructors who are committed to helping students develop effective communication and critical thinking skills.

This posting will remain open for up to one year to build a pool of qualified candidates who may be considered for future teaching and/or course development opportunities as needs arise.

Example of Duties

Adjunct instructors in English may be considered to teach in the following areas:

  1. First-Year Writing: First-Year Writing courses focus on developing students' abilities as academic writers, readers, and critical thinkers. Instructors guide students through writing processes that include analysis, argumentation, research, revision, and effective communication for academic and professional contexts.
  2. Communication: Communication courses may include Public Speaking, Professional Communication, and Interpersonal Communication. Instructors help students develop oral, interpersonal, and workplace communication skills relevant to academic, professional, and community settings.
  3. Writing in the Health Professions: Writing in the Health Professions focuses on professional and research-based communication in healthcare settings. Topics may include APA style, evidence-based writing, public health communication, workplace communication, and communication with professional and public audiences.
  4. English Literature: Literature courses may include surveys of British, American, World, or thematic literature, depending on departmental needs and instructor expertise.

Qualifications

  • An earned Master's degree or higher in English, Rhetoric and Composition, Writing Studies, Communication, Literature, Professional Writing, Technical Communication, or a closely related field. (PhD preferred)
  • Prior experience with classroom instruction and higher education
  • Effective communication skills to convey subject matter clearly
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Commitment to providing innovative and engaging education
