Adjunct Instructor - School of Education
Position Summary
The School of Education seeks candidates to teach on a semester-by-semester, as needed basis, in the areas of elementary and secondary education. The instructor is expected to use high-quality instructional strategies, integrate theory and practice, and support student success in coursework and clinical experiences. Candidates must be available to teach in person (main or other campuses) or synchronously online during the hours of 9 am- 5 pm, with occasional evening courses. This is a pooled position. One or more candidates may be hired as needed to teach courses on a semester-by-semester basis. Courses are to be taught in person on one of Ferris State University's Campuses or approved FSU sites. The candidate(s) selected for the position must reside in Michigan after acceptance of employment and will perform duties at a Ferris site. The anticipated start dates for these positions are August 2026 or January 2027.
Required Qualifications
- Required Education: Master's degree in Education or closely related field.
- Required Work Experience: A minimum of 3 years teaching at the K-12 level.
- Required Licenses and Certifications: Possess or be eligible for MI teaching certification.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
Instruction:
- Teach assigned undergraduate education courses (e.g., foundational education courses, curriculum courses, methods courses) at scheduled times and formats.
- Design and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction that reflects current research and best practices in education.
- Develop and evaluate assignments, assessments, and performance tasks that measure student learning and professional competencies.
- Provide timely feedback and assess student performance using university grading policies.
- Maintain accurate course records, submit grades, initial participation, report accreditation data, and comply with academic policies.
- Provide scheduled availability at times convenient to students to support their learning.
Program, Accreditation & Compliance:
- Ensure coursework aligns with state certification requirements and accreditation standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of grades, initial participation, communication, and other course materials.
- Contribute data and feedback to support program assessment and continuous improvement efforts.
Professional Engagement:
- Participate in adjunct professional development trainings as provided.
- Stay current with best practices in teacher education, supervision, and pedagogy.
- Support the mission, values, and equity commitments of Ferris State University.
- Promote and develop university student enrollment and retention initiatives.
- Cultivates an environment of belonging that values, respects, supports, and celebrates individual similarities and differences, allowing students, faculty, and staff to thrive authentically.
Salary
Minimum of $1,353 per credit hour, if advanced degree held in primary academic discipline the minimum rate increases to $1,458 per credit hour; Salary commensurate with qualifications pursuant to the FSU and FNTFO/AFT Agreement.
