Job Description

Established in 1970, Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) is one of 23 colleges in the Virginia Community College System, with seven locations across several counties, including Brunswick, Charlotte, Nottoway, Mecklenburg, Greensville, and Halifax. SVCC serves the largest community college region in the state, covering ten counties and one city.

SVCC is located in a beautiful rural region renowned for its rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland, and is home to two popular lakes: Gaston and Kerr. We offer a welcoming learning environment and are accredited to award associate degrees. The college offers a diverse range of programs, including developmental studies, academic, technical, and lifelong education. SVCC empowers students to build skills, knowledge, and leadership, preparing them to thrive in a changing society.

Help students explore the worlds major religious traditions, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, through a comparative and cultural lens.

Join the Southside Virginia Community College faculty and teach REL 230 Religions of the World. This is a Passport and UCGS transfer course that introduces the major religions of the world, including Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. The successful candidate must be committed to SVCCs mission to provide high-quality education to the Southside Virginia community.

Applications will be received, reviewed, and considered continuously until needed positions are filled.

Course Content & Specific Duties:

  • Introduce the major world religions: Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism.
  • Focus on the origins, history, and basic beliefs of these faith traditions.
  • Instruct students on the values, ethics, and practices associated with each major religion.
  • Deliver instruction in a hybrid format, ensuring high-quality course materials align with college standards.
  • Maintain engagement through the colleges Canvas Learning Management System (LMS) for the online portion of the course.
  • Monitor and document class attendance in compliance with college policies, maintaining accurate records and communicating with students and necessary departments as needed to support academic success.
