Chief Objective of Position
The chief responsibility of this position is the recruitment of transfer students. In the performance of these duties, the incumbent exercises discretion and independent judgment in determining admission to the university by reviewing applications, evaluating academic credentials, performing credit evaluations, and making admission decisions. This position supports the recruitment, admission, and enrollment of each entering transfer cohort through presentations, outreach, and informing prospective students, families, and community college personnel about CNU programs and counseling students and their families through the college search and enrollment processes.
Work Tasks
- Independently analyzes and reviews transfer qualifications for admission, non-degree, and readmission to the university, including evaluation of academic transcripts, awarding transfer credit, utilizes the National Student Clearinghouse to identify unreported institutions of enrollment, review of domicile applications when appropriate, and recommendations for merit scholarship programs, and commits the university to those decisions.
- Assists students with coursework taken elsewhere by evaluating transfer eligibility using degree audit tools, articulating and posting transfer credit, and maintaining the transfer equivalency database. Ensures compliance with state transfer policies and articulation agreements while supporting data integrity through quality assurance and resolution of duplicate credit issues. Reviews requests to take courses elsewhere when appropriate.
- Routinely consults with other student service professionals to interpret university standards, policy and procedures.
- Supports transfer recruitment by building relationships with community college partners, coordinating on- and off-campus recruitment events, including special groups and college planning workshops, and conducting presentations, information sessions, admission interviews, and advising appointments for prospective students.
- Represents the University in a professional manner at designated community college visits and numerous college fair programs. Coordinates individual visits with community college counselors and makes presentations to interested students. Advertises visits to prospective students and follows up with each student contacted at visits and college fairs utilizing CRM technology.
- Represents the university as a member in the Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (VACRAO) and National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC) according to national and regional principles of best practices.
- Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the “Student’s First” value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service.
- Safety issues are reviewed and communicated to ensure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absences. Follow workplace safety regulations and adhere to applicable standards, processes, and programs established for your position.
- This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.
- This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority. A Campus Security Authority (or CSA) is defined as an “official of the institution with significant responsibility for student and campus activities.” A CSA is required to immediately report any crime that is reported to them to the University Police who will then review, evaluate, and investigate the reported crime. Annual training is required by the Department of Education for all personnel who have been designated as a Campus Security Authority.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) related to position
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, excellent organizational and planning skills and academic counseling skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to travel extensively, work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license at time of start date.
- Must be able to transport and distribute admission information and materials for the purposes of recruiting students.
Required Education
Master’s Degree or Bachelor’s degree with work experience that equates to an advanced degree.
Experience Required
Experience counseling students on academic matters.
Additional Consideration - Experience
- Experience in a college or university admission office.
- Experience with Internet-based student information systems, such as Ellucian XE. Experience using CRM technology.
