This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening.
Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered.

A total of one (1), 0.5 FTE Advanced Practice Professionals (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.
The Cardiovascular Medicine (CVM) Consult Service APP will provide support to the Cardiovascular Medicine Inpatient Consult Team as directed by the Director of Cardiovascular Medicine Inpatient Services and the Cardiovascular Medicine APP Manager. Cardiovascular Medicine consult requests may originate from any adult inpatient location as well as from the Adult Medical Observation Unit (AMOU). The APP assigned to the CVM Consult Service would provide evaluation and treatment of patients related to those consult referrals under the direction of the Cardiovascular Medicine attending physician assigned to the CVM Consult Service. Within the physician-APP relationship, the APP exercises autonomy in medical decision making and provides a range of diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients. The CVM Consult Service APP practice may also include education, research, and administrative services such as assisting with staff supervision and training.
- Take and record histories and physical, perform physical examinations.
- Order appropriate treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies.
- Review and interpret lab and other diagnostic test data.
- Write prescriptions for scheduled and unscheduled medications under prescriptive authority from the Cardiovascular Medicine attending physician assigned to the CVM Consult Service.
- Provide patient education on both disease management and preventive care.
- Communicate with other care providers as applicable.
- Participate in teaching rounds and present at patient care conferences.
- Function to assure medical care is accomplished effectively and efficiently in a cost-effective manner.
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of medical principles, practices, standards, and techniques in accordance with UMHS policies and procedures, Medical Staff Bylaws and State and Federal laws/regulations.
- Function as a preceptor for other health care professionals.
- Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development. Attends pertinent in-services, departmental and other meetings as requested by the Cardiovascular Medicine Service Chief, the Director of Cardiovascular Inpatient Services, or the CVM APP Manager, and in accordance with Medical Staff Bylaws.
- Adhere to all UMHS dress codes, personnel, and safety policies.
- Adhere to Service Excellence and Patient Family Centered Care (PFCC) guidelines.
NP:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
- Certification as an Acute Care Adult Gerontology Nurse Practitioner or Acute Care NP.
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or who has successfully completed all required Nurse Practitioner program coursework at an accredited Nurse Practitioner program to qualify to take their specialty certification exam.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- Current DEA registration required.
- BLS, ACLS required.
- One year APP experience
PA:
- Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required.
- Current DEA registration required.
- BLS, ACLS required.
- One year APP experience
NOTE:
- Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.
- In order to be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of employment.
RESUME REQUIRED (for both internal & external applicants): You must attach a complete and accurate resume with month and year at previous positions to be fully considered for this position.
- One year or more APP experience rounding on an inpatient cardiology, or hospitalist-based service, ICU, or ER caring for acutely ill patients on the general, step-down and ICU setting.
- ACC Knowledge Exam Certification.
- Proficient in 12 lead ECG interpretation.
- APP experience working on an inpatient Consult Service.
- Demonstrates adult cardiac physiology knowledge.
- Ability to demonstrate good computer skills including computer documentation and order entry.
- Conducts comprehensive patient assessments, orders diagnostic studies, and develops care plans.
- Applies critical thinking and evidence-based practice in clinical decision-making.
- Prioritizes tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Demonstrates ability to function independently and as a team member, working collaboratively with others.
- Demonstrated clinical leadership and experience with coordinating and managing complex, patients and providing safe hand offs to the next provider.
- Demonstrated expertise in facilitating the educational growth of others through previous clinical instructional roles.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate effectively as a patient advocate.
- Demonstrated commitment to fulfilling professional responsibilities, adherence to ethical principles, sensitivity to diversity, and sharing knowledge with team members.
Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position. Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort. Positions less than 20 hours/week may be combined.
