Advanced Practice Professional (PA) Rogel Cancer Center - Sarcoma Team

Both qualified NP and PA applicants will be considered.

A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.
This role is in the care of patients with sarcoma in the Rogel Cancer Center. The responsibilities include:
- Monitoring of patients receiving treatment protocols including any combination of systemic therapy, radiation, or surgery.
- Direct care and management of patients in the outpatient setting including: performing history and physical, evaluation, development of different diagnoses, collaborating with the physician to develop a plan of care, identification of individuals eligible for clinical trials, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration and referral to other services and provision of education to nursing staff, students and community providers
- Management of infusion reactions, drug toxicities, wound care, or pain.Review of laboratory, pathology, and radiographic test results.
- Longitudinal follow-up for disease surveillance and late effects of treatments.
- Assessment and management of psychological distress and navigation of complex care for these patients.
- Participation in clinical research.
- Attendance at tumor board.
- Collaboration with other specialties to provide comprehensive care for these patients.
- Provide coverage for APP colleagues when needed.
- Participation in workshops, conferences or other CME activities pertaining to oncology care.
- Attend programmatic meetings or Cancer Center meetings and occasionally attend regional or national meetings.
Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program to include work with other disease groups or teams if needed.
NP:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan
- Current specialty certification to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan Certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care NP, Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP, Adult NP or FNP
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN)
- Current DEA registration required
- AHA approved BLS
- Clinical experience as an APP in the management of oncology patients in the outpatient setting.
PA:
- Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
- Current DEA registration required
- AHA Approved BLS
- Clinical experience as an APP in the management of oncology patients in the outpatient setting.

- >2 years of APP experience
- Excellent communication skills as evidenced by interviews and references.
- Experience in the management of sarcoma.
- Experience in the management of patients in oncology related clinical trials.
- The ability to function independently.
- The ability to manage chemotherapy related infusion reactions and side effects.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Ability to manage complex cancer-related pain.
Hours: 40 hours/week
Shift: Day shift
Location: Rogel Cancer Center- Blue Team primary with appointments to other teams if needed
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
