Job Description
The Advising Coordinator is responsible for advising Teacher Education and undergraduate students in the School of Education. The Advising Coordinator is responsible for reviewing all applicant materials prior to admission to the Teacher Education program as well as implementing enrollment, recruitment, and retention efforts, and other designated duties as needs arise.
This position is not eligible for new visa sponsorship at this time. Candidates who already hold valid U.S. work authorization may be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Academic Student Advising: Provide advising to current, prospective, transfer, and degree-holding students, including general academic advising, prerequisite, and admission requirements for the university and college degree programs. Advising on the petition and appeals processes within the college and university-wide. Advising extends to referral processes for campus resources and personnel to support the academic and non-academic needs of students. Primary advising responsibilities include:
Schedule and meet regularly with all assigned advisees.
Assist advisees in course registration and monitor academic progress.Effectively communicate institutional standards for graduation. Connect students with campus resources as necessary. - Transcript Evaluation: Evaluate transcripts for compliance with requirements for the College of Education programs and certification.
Student Records and Accreditation: Maintain all appropriate records and databases for university and college data required for certification.
The Advising Coordinator attends university advising meetings, field experience meetings, and Teaching & Educational Studies (TES) department meetings. - Coordinate and attend School of Education and campus-wide recruitment events.
- Other duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree.
- Two years of experience in higher education academic advising or student-related services.
- Professional written communication skills.
- Strong Organization and Collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Application and transcript review experience.
- Experience with data management in various software applications and databases.
- Experience with student retention and recruitment.
Additional Information

Salary will be between $54,000 and $58,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
