Emerson College Los Angeles (ELA) seeks a part-time affiliated faculty instructor to teach the following course in the Fall 2026 semester:
PA334 Acting for Film and Television
(Thursdays, 10am - 1:45pm)
Focuses on making the transition from stage performance to single camera, frame performance. The course integrates an intensive study of various approaches to acting for the camera with the development of a character that the student performs in various sessions throughout the semester. Students also develop techniques in cold readings, advanced scene work, and auditions. Offered through the Los Angeles Program only.
Ideal candidates will have significant professional experience and achievement in the performing arts, an appropriate advanced degree in hand (preferred), and experience teaching acting at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Teach assigned course and/or duties as specified in the schedule and contract
- Select texts and instructional materials; prepare course materials and lesson plans
- Provide students an approved syllabus that includes course description, learning objectives, course calendar, course requirements, texts, and other materials, grading policy and the required accessibility and plagiarism statements
- Be available for student consultation through email and scheduled office hours
- Maintain records of enrollment and attendance, assessments and grades, submit grades online by the deadlines established by the College
- Submit student work to department for departmental assessment process
Affiliated (adjunct) faculty at ELA work under the supervision of the Academic Director and in consultation with the chairs and senior faculty at the appropriate academic department at Emerson's Boston campus.
The appointment is for the Fall semester only and begins August 29, 2026. The course meets in person once weekly on Thursdays from 10am to 1:45pm for 14 weeks. The course fee for the Fall 2026 semester is $8,363. Interested applicants should submit a CV, cover letter, and evidence of teaching effectiveness.
