American Government (On-line) Dual Enrollment Adjunct
Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Fairmont State University is seeking highly motivated professional educators to deliver online American Government courses to our Dual Enrollment student population. Dual Enrollment students are those who are currently in high school and are enrolled in university course work for which they receive both college credit and credit toward their high school graduation requirements. Candidates should be very comfortable working with High School aged students in an on-line modality, as well as coordinating with secondary K-12 partners, and university faculty and staff.
Duties and responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to the following:
- Teach assigned courses as scheduled and meet all designated class periods.
- Prepare course materials such as syllabi, lectures, and assignments.
- Engage students in active learning and facilitate meaningful class discussions.
- Assess student learning through examinations, quizzes, and other assignments.
- Provide timely feedback to students and maintain records of their progress.
- Maintain regular office hours for student consultation and support
- Submit assessment reporting data and materials and participate in departmental assessment activities, as required by supervisor.
- Post syllabus and maintain gradebook in Blackboard or other official online course delivery platform.
- Coordinate on-site student activities and evaluation with cooperating high school facilitators, as needed.
- Participate in Dual Enrollment faculty development offerings.
Minimum Required Education
- At least 18 hours of graduate work in the subject are of the course(s) to be taught. (Master’s degree or higher preferred.) All credits or degrees must be from a regionally or nationally accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, or equivalent
Minimum Qualifications
- Prior teaching experience at both the college/university level and the high school level is desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in the subject area of the course(s) to be taught.
- Commitment to excellence in teaching and student-centered teaching.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Quality Matters certification preferred
