Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
The ideal candidate will share RCC's and the School of Nursing's commitment to educating its racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population. The college has a total student enrollment of approximately 29,000, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. Sixty-seven to sixty-eight percent (67-68%) of RCC's students are Hispanic, 7%-8% are African-American, 6%-7% are Asian American, 0.3% are Native American, 0.7% are Pacific Islander, 13-14% are White, and 2% are multiracial. Riverside City College has been designated as a Hispanic- and Black-Serving Institution, reflecting the great responsibility that the College has to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community.

The successful candidate will have the faculty responsibilities of lecture, laboratory, and clinical instruction and may also be responsible to serve as Program Director. The assignment may vary according to departmental/program needs, based on faculty qualifications.

EDUCATION:
Associate degree in Anesthesia Technology and current certification as an Anesthesia Technologist (ASATT)
AND
Minimum of 6 years clinical experience as an Anesthesia Technologist

OR

Associate degree in Anesthesia Technology and current certification as an Anesthesia Technologist (ASATT)
AND
A bachelor's degree in a health-related science
AND
Minimum of 2 years of experience as an Anesthesia Technologist

OR

Certified Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA with a master's degree in nursing and a current unencumbered RN license
AND
Minimum of 2 years of clinical practice in an OR setting

OR

Physician (MD or DO) with a current unencumbered California license to practice anesthesiology.

EXPERIENCE:
The ideal candidate will be knowledgeable about culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and practices for engaging our diverse student population in addition to having the ability to teach well; create and develop curriculum; work well with others (students, faculty, staff, and administrators); and fulfill the duties of a full-time faculty member in a shared governance environment.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
American Heart Basic Cardiac Life Support (BSL); American Heart Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.

Depending on the education and experiential preparation, candidates will have ASATT Certification as an Anesthesia Technologist, or an unencumbered California registered nursing license, or an unencumbered California physician license.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fulfill the duties of a full-time instructor, including, but not limited to, holding weekly office hours, completing 24 hours of "flex credit" through various activities and seminars.
  2. Faculty assignments are based upon the assumption of a workload of 42.5 hours weekly (Fall and Spring), including but not limited to conducting classes and clinical, class preparation, student evaluation, office hours, committee work, curriculum and program development, learning outcomes assessment, program review, student activities and other duties per the bargaining unit agreement
  3. Institutional service activities of 5 hours/week are expected of all full-time faculty members (Fall and Spring).
  4. Participation in discipline/department decision-making processes regarding curriculum, program development, Improvement of Instruction, accreditation, faculty development, and other professional matters is expected.
  5. Responsibilities include maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position.
  6. Develop and present didactic instruction on various topics in anesthesia technology.
  7. Provide clinical and laboratory instruction as it relates to academic subject material.
  8. Evaluate the formative and summative academic/clinical performance of anesthesia technology students using multiple measure.
  9. Academically prepare students to effectively complete the national certification examination upon graduation.

1. Direct the program admission processes.
2. Conduct and participate in monthly program faculty meetings.
3. Participate in annual Advisory Committee meeting.
4. Maintain accreditation and regulatory standards and records.
5. Direct preparation of accreditation and regulatory reports.
6. Securing and coordination student clinical placements.
7. Preparing and ordering supplies for on-campus labs.
8. Manages outreach efforts with clinical agency partners.
9. Presents the college program to the general public through community contacts and participation in community activities.
10. Participates in professional organizations
11. Orients new faculty.
12. Prepares and oversees grant opportunities.
13. Develops new programs.
14. Develops, creates and maintains brochures and website information and other professional publications.
15. Performs other related duties as may be assigned.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  1. Ten-month, tenure-track position.
  2. Salary is commensurate with academic preparation, and full-time teaching or equivalent experience with a range from Column B, Step 1 to Column H, Step 6 of the current Faculty Salary Schedule.
  3. Medical and dental benefits are provided for the employee and legal dependents.
  4. A $50,000 life insurance policy is provided for the employee.
  5. Orientation to college is required as is adherence to Improvement of Instruction policy.
  6. Maintaining broad knowledge of the academic or occupational area and design pedagogy related to learning outcomes is expected.
  7. Responsible for all other conditions of employment required of full-time faculty members such as a willingness to be involved in District and College promotional activities, active participation in college committee work, student activities and other support services, and appropriate professional activities.
