Animal Law Teaching Fellow

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The Animal Law Teaching Fellow within the Center for Animal Law Studies (CALS) reports directly to the Director of the Animal Law Program. This role is primarily responsible for supporting the success of the Animal Law LLM and MSL degree programs, contributing to both online and in-person courses, and mentoring students outside the classroom. This is a one-year position that begins August 1, 2026, with the potential for a one-year renewal.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Teaching and Course Development

  • Actively engage with students in CALS' online course offerings to support faculty and enhance the learning experience for students.
  • Teach up to two online introductory animal law courses per year as assigned by CALS, with potential for additional courses based on program needs.
  • Collaborate with the Animal Law Program faculty to continuously improve curriculum and course materials, ensuring they meet academic standards and industry developments.
  • Develop and update materials for use in online and in-person courses, ensuring accuracy and alignment with the latest developments in the field of animal law.

Student Mentorship and Support

  • Provide individualized mentorship to students, offering guidance on academic and professional development in animal law and related fields.
  • Facilitate virtual and in-person office hours, actively engaging with students to foster a supportive learning environment.
  • Assist in student-run animal law groups and projects, ensuring they receive guidance and resources necessary for success.

Research and Content Development

  • Conduct research on current animal law topics and curate relevant content for CALS' educational programs, publications, and approved collaborations.
  • Collaborate with faculty to produce high-quality content for CALS' online platforms, academic papers, and industry presentations.

Administrative and Program Support

  • Support the overall administration of the Animal Law Program, assisting with event coordination, student assessments, and other programmatic needs.
  • Engage with students and alumni, maintaining relationships and encouraging continued involvement in animal law and related fields.
  • Utilize the CALS' learning management system to track student progress, manage course materials, and facilitate communication.

Collaboration and Outreach

  • As approved by CALS, represent CALS at animal law conferences, seminars, and other events, contributing to the promotion of animal law education.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external organizations to enhance the reach and effectiveness of CALS' mission and educational offerings.
