Annex Services and Scanning Assistant

ANNEX SERVICES AND SCANNING ASSISTANT, MIT Libraries - Library Storage Annex-Information Delivery and Library Access (ID&LA), to contribute to document delivery operations of the Library Storage Annex in a position offering an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic academic library setting. Responsibilities will include verifying citations in online catalog and other databases; applying fair use copyright rules to requests; retrieving materials from Annex stacks and Harvard Depository; preparing daily digital scan files for desktop delivery of requested articles; working with other staff to meet deadlines and production goals, including scanning deadlines for interlibrary lending requests; daily check-in/out of library materials; assisting patrons virtually and on-site; compiling monthly scanning, circulation, and storage activity statistics; and performing other duties as assigned. May work at other library service desks and participate on committees/teams/groups/projects.

REQUIRED: High school diploma or its equivalent; a minimum of six-months of direct/related experience that provides an understanding of library or service functions; experience using library catalogs; ability to use basic business software (e.g., MS Office, e-mail, calendaring), and interest in learning new software/systems/technology; initiative; flexibility; ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a busy and dynamic environment; strong organizational, interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; and ability to work and contribute independently and as part of a service team and collaborate effectively with a diverse group of people. PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree or related coursework; experience in an academic/research library; basic training or teaching experience; experience working with specific library software in use at MIT (e.g., Aleph, Alma, ILLiad, and/or RAPID ILL); and experience compiling, managing, manipulating, and presenting data (e.g.,Excel, Access, Tableau).

Work conditions: moving objects/boxes weighing up to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling loaded carts weighing up to 150 lbs., bending and reaching to shelve and shift library materials, and exposure to dust.

This is a full-time (35 hrs/wk.) position. The schedule is Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. (actual schedule to be determined) although hours may change based on business needs and MIT's academic calendar.

This is a union position. Employees are covered by the collective bargaining agreement between the MIT Libraries and American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Council 93. Provisions related to wages, benefits and other terms of employment are contained in the agreement. Any questions regarding the agreement should be directed to lib-hr@mit.edu.
