Job Description
The Department of Neurology is seeking an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join the University of South Florida Neurology Hospitalist in the in the Crystal River and Spring Hill/Brooksville areas. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Neurology Hospitalist delivers comprehensive inpatient neurological care to patients admitted with acute and complex neurological conditions. Working collaboratively with neurologists, hospitalists, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams, the APP evaluates, diagnoses, and manages a wide range of neurological disorders in the hospital setting.
This role focuses on timely, evidence-based patient care, including conducting neurological assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, initiating treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress throughout hospitalization. The APP also provides patient and family education, participates in discharge planning, and ensures continuity of care across services. Duty hours are Mon-Fri, day shifts only.
The APP Neurology Hospitalist plays a vital role in improving patient outcomes, supporting clinical efficiency, and maintaining high standards of neurological care within the inpatient environment.
Responsibilities
Clinical - 95%-The APRN/PA will be under the general supervision and in accordance with the standardized procedure. The position is responsible for performing inpatient physical examinations and treating common episodic and chronic healthcare problems, counseling patient and families, monitoring patient's progress, assisting with medical research projects. Works in collaboration with healthcare team members, consulting and referring as appropriate, but retains responsibility for ongoing clinical management of the patient. Updates patient's records, noting changes in medication and responses of patients. Notifies physicians of changes in patient condition.
Other - 5%-Performs other duties as assigned.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate higher-level administrator of a state university. Responsible for teaching, service, and related activities. May be responsible for research and/or academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
Qualifications
Master's or Medical degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of specialization or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Instructor.
This position requires graduation from an accredited Advanced Practice Registered Nurse academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 464 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64, or graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant academic degree program and certification as outlined in Florida Statutes 458 and 459 and Florida Administrative Code, Chapter 64.
