Additional Information
Selection process
The Aragon Nanoscience and Materials Institute (INMA) is opening a call for a PhD student position in the field of biomedicine and nanomedicine, as part of the SEVEN project, funded by an ERC Starting Grant from the European Research Council. This is a full-time contract of up to 4 years' duration, based in Zaragoza, Spain.
The SEVEN project investigates how the “biomolecular corona” that forms around extracellular vesicles (EVs) — small natural particles that act as biological messengers — determines their ability to specifically target metastatic tissue. Despite years of effort, EV-based therapies have yet to reach clinical practice, largely because little is known about how these vesicles behave in real biological environments. SEVEN aims to change this: by characterising the identity and surface topography of this biomolecular corona, the project seeks to design new therapeutic vectors — nanoparticle-loaded EVs — capable of accumulating far more effectively in metastasis target tissues.
The successful candidate will take part in the creation and characterisation of metastasis/tumour-targeting EVs loaded with therapeutic nanoparticles, as well as in experiments analysing how the composition, kinetics and topography of the protein corona are influenced by different physiological and pathological scenarios.
Candidates should hold a degree in Biotechnology, Biology, Chemistry or a related field; engineers or nanotechnologists with a strong interest in biological applications will also be considered. Good English communication skills are essential.
Interested candidates should submit their application, together with a motivation letter, to María Sancho Albero (msancho@unizar.es). This is a pre-announcement: the official call is still pending publication and is expected in the second half of August 2026.
