Tarleton State University, a distinguished Doctoral National Comprehensive University, invites applications for the position of Assistant, Associate, Full Professor Tenure-Track in the Department of Animal Science.
This is a 9-month tenure-track position located on Tarleton’s main campus in Stephenville, Texas. Summer appointment is dependent upon need and funding availability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
60% Teaching and Service
- Plan, prepare, and deliver lectures, seminars, and/or laboratory offerings to undergraduate and/or graduate students.
- Develop course syllabi, select instructional materials, and design assessments such as exams, quizzes, papers, etc.
- Assess student performance, provide timely feedback, and evaluate student learning outcomes.
- Engage students in active learning, foster critical thinking skills.
- Provide academic support and guidance to students through office hours, feedback on assignments, and mentoring.
- Collaborate with colleagues to coordinate course offerings and contribute to program development.
- Participate in institutional service roles including college committees, student/faculty recruitment, and mentoring.
40% Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activity
- Maintain an active agenda for research and/or scholarship appropriate to the applicant’s academic discipline.
- Make original contributions to the advancement of knowledge through scholarly publication and/or presentation.
- Demonstrate potential for external funding, national impact, or professional recognition.
Minimum Requirements
Required Education and Experience
- Earned PhD in Animal Science or closely related discipline from an accredited university.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge and understanding of disciplinary subject matter at a level adequate for graduate-level instruction.
- Written and oral communication skills sufficient to conduct effective teaching and research activities.
- Ability to interact with students, staff, and faculty in a professional, collegial, and collaborative manner.
Preferred Requirements
- Teaching and/or research background in livestock management, production, physiology, or related fields.
- Experience as a faculty member in a department with a PhD in Animal Science.
- Experience and documented success in securing extramural funding and mentoring graduate (MS and PhD) students.
Academic Rank
Rank will be determined by reviewing the faculty member’s record of years of experience and professional achievements. Must have a distinguished record that warrants a tenured faculty appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor. Tenure upon arrival would be granted pending approval from The Texas A&M University System.
