The College of Nursing is seeking an Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs, a faculty administrative appointment that is responsible for the overall quality and implementation of undergraduate programs within the OU College of Nursing (CON). The Assistant Dean for the Undergraduate Program serves on the OU CON Academic Affairs leadership team and the CON Dean's Council and supports the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs in the administrative leadership of the undergraduate programs.
Appointment
- The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs in the CON.
- This position carries approximately 80% administrative release time; release time is negotiated annually with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Associate Dean for Faculty Affairs, based on the demands of the role and needs of the OU CON.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees all CON undergraduate programs in collaboration with the BSN Program Director, Track Coordinators, and Administrative Coordinators
- Leads Systematic Evaluation Planning (SEP) for undergraduate programs and ensures the overall quality of undergraduate programs
- Provides leadership on curricular design based on best practices for undergraduate education
- Provides leadership for undergraduate academic policies
- Fosters an environment, through Academic Affairs councils, that leverages student outcome metrics, licensure success rates, and national benchmarks to ensure program quality and alignment with accreditation requirements.
- Partners with CON Student Affairs on a student success model for the OU CON student experience
- Supervises BSN Program Director and Track Coordinators
- Collaborates with CON Faculty Affairs and provides leadership for undergraduate curricular integrity
- Tracks undergraduate program outcomes, maintains integrity, and develops and implements improvement processes
- Maintains and communicates OU Health Campus and College of Nursing policies, accrediting body standards, regulatory standards, and professional nursing standards through CON Councils
- In coordination with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, develops and implements a strategic plan to advance the undergraduate program
- Participates in the CON strategic planning on strategic priorities and goal setting for undergraduate education
- Participates in the preparation for accreditation reviews
- Supports and oversees evidence-based student achievement initiatives
- Collaborates with OUHC, OUES, OU Recruitment and Admissions and CON Student Affairs to plan and implement innovative marketing initiatives
- Collaborates with the OU CON Business and Finance to build budgets
- Promotes the OU CON positively to the community and to current and future students
- Collaborates with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs to develop, implement, and evaluate undergraduate academic programs
- Represents the CON Associate Dean regarding undergraduate education on OUHC and University committees
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs or Dean.
Qualifications
Licensure: Must be eligible for or hold current registered nurse license for the State of Oklahoma
Education: Graduate degree in Nursing required and must be terminally prepared
Experience: 3 years of higher education teaching in nursing; 5 years progressive administration experience in higher education; Experience with or strong understanding of evidence-based undergraduate curriculum standards, adult learning principles, industry standards for practice ready nurses, instructional design, and innovation for undergraduate student success; Experience with operational processes involving programs, courses, and curriculum
Required Skills: Proven ability to provide leadership in a complex environment; Demonstrated leadership and effectiveness in building strong working relationships with a collaborative leadership style; Enjoy interacting with people and can easily connect with faculty and staff; Evidence of successful collaborations with community partners and faculty teams; Demonstrated ability to be engaging and persuasive with strong teamwork skills; Flexible and capable of responding to multiple demands in a time-sensitive manner; Ability to exercise professional judgment in all matters related to academic affairs; Proficient with MS Office applications, learning management software, and other technology used in teaching, research, and practice.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A record of scholarship and extramural funding; Extensive, successful teaching experience in the undergraduate program; Experience with technological resources to support student success; Experience advising/mentoring undergraduate students; Knowledge of current industry standards for practice-ready BSNs
