Job Summary/Description:

This faculty role combines teaching responsibilities with coordination and student-support functions across traditional and Texas 2-Step pathways. The faculty member teaches selected courses while also supporting students seeking Texas teacher certification through an innovative pathway. The role includes coordinating with faculty colleagues on curriculum alignment, mentoring students, and maintaining regular communication with school districts and community colleges. In addition, the faculty member supports recruitment and other program events.

Salary varies by rank. Appointment may be made at the Assistant or Associate Professor level.

Typical Duties/Job Duties:

  • Teach undergraduate courses aligned with program and innovative pathway needs, including Texas 2‑Step coursework as assigned.
  • Track and monitor candidates by district across for Texas 2‑Step pathway.
  • Monitor candidate progression through key benchmarks and program gates to support timely completion.
  • Track enrollment and course participation to support program planning and reporting.
  • Identify and track candidate needs related to student teaching, modified student teaching, or residency placement.
  • Monitor candidate timelines to support accurate and timely funding and grant application processes.
  • Coordinate with faculty colleagues and designated faculty representatives to align curriculum and pathway requirements.
  • Mentor students and provide ongoing academic, professional, and accountability support.
  • Maintain regular communication with school districts regarding candidate progress, placements, and support needs.
  • Serve as liaison with community colleges, maintaining communication with designated Texas 2‑Step contacts.
  • Support recruitment activities and participate in pathway‑related outreach and recruitment events.
  • Coordinate and attend program events, including graduations.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation to support compliance, accountability, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of educator preparation programs, certification pathways, and clinical experiences
  • Knowledge of higher education teaching and learning practices, including curriculum design and assessment
  • Knowledge of enrollment management, course sequencing, and program requirements
  • Knowledge of student progression milestones, benchmarks, and accountability requirements
  • Knowledge of school district partnerships and P–16 collaboration structures
  • Knowledge of funding timelines, grants, and reporting requirements related to educator preparation
  • Understanding of student support services and strategies that promote retention and completion
  • Familiarity with Texas 2-Step or similar transfer and articulation pathways between community colleges and universities

  • Skill in building and maintaining productive relationships with external stakeholders
  • Skill in analyzing data related to enrollment, progression, and compliance for planning and accountability
  • Strong attention to detail in documentation, reporting, and record keeping
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills when working with students, faculty, districts, and community colleges

Abilities

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively as part of a faculty and program team

Minimum Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate in Education (e.g., teaching, leadership, etc.) or a related discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Texas Teacher Certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience (minimum, 3 years) teaching education related classes in higher education.
  • Possess a working knowledge of Texas Administrative Code and agencies that govern Texas teacher preparation (THECB & TEA).
  • Scholarship or training that demonstrates an understanding of effective online courses and instruction.
