Assistant/Associate Teaching or Clinical Professor-Mathematics Education
The College of Education (COE) at Seattle University seeks applications for a full-time, Teaching Professor or Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor to join the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leadership (rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications). This individual will join a cohesive and collaborative faculty passionate about and committed to preparing critical, reflective, and skilled educators for social justice. This clinical faculty member will teach and support teacher education courses and field experiences in graduate teacher education pathways in both in-person and online formats. The faculty member in this position will also lead the revisions of the mathematics education courses across our programs. Teaching responsibilities focus on K-12 mathematics education informed by sociocultural perspectives on learning and social foundations, anti-racist pedagogies, and curriculum. The Teaching Professor or Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor will be responsible for teaching a full course load of teacher education courses per term, in addition to mentoring, advising, and supporting students. The position start date is September 1, 2026.
Primary responsibilities include teaching both in-person and online, service, and program development. Responsibilities will also include course and/or curriculum design, supporting program continuous improvement activities, working with diverse communities, and student advising and mentoring. Workload will focus primarily on K-12 mathematics education within a context of inclusion and anti-racist culturally sustaining pedagogies. Some Saturday’s teaching is expected with this position. Service will include developing collaborative relationships with external partners, program activities such as reviewing admissions files, conducting program information sessions for prospective students, admissions interviews, and working with other faculty regarding general program and College operations.

Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- Masters degree with preparation in teacher education with a focus on K-12 mathematics education or related field.
- Three or more years of experience teaching students from diverse backgrounds in K-12 schools.
- Demonstrated knowledge of equitable, anti-racist mathematics teaching practices, curriculum, assessment, and instruction, and support of inclusive, student-centered classroom communities in K-12 settings.
- Teaching field-based and placement methods in K-12 settings.
- Capacity to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, both in-person and online, in mathematics methods and assessment.
- Evidence of ability to work and teach collaboratively in team settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice.
Preferred Requirements:
- Doctoral degree with preparation in teacher education with a focus on K-12 mathematics education or related field.
- Three or more years of experience teaching preservice teacher candidates.
- Experience with culturally sustaining education and anti-racist pedagogies.
- Knowledge of application of sociolinguistics and sociocultural approaches in classrooms and schools.
- Demonstrate active engagement with current scholarship and innovative practices that focus on K-12 mathematics education and teacher preparation.
- Experience with mentoring/coaching teachers.
