Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs (Clinical Associate/Clinical Professor)

The University of South Carolina (USC) seeks a talented and motivated individual to fill the newly created role of Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs in the Arnold School of Public Health. The Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Programs will provide academic leadership and operational management for the delivery of the Arnold School of Public Health’s diverse undergraduate programs. We are seeking an individual that will lead efforts in curriculum development, course management, and assessment across three degree programs that serve nearly 3,000 undergraduate students (Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science, Bachelor of Science in Public Health, and Bachelor of Arts in Public Health). Refining undergraduate curriculum will be a strong area of focus requiring collaboration with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs, Associate Dean of Graduate Programs, and faculty across the school. This individual will be appointed as a 12-month Professional Track faculty at the rank of Clinical Associate or Clinical Professor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION:Academic Leadership & Program Management

  • Provide academic leadership for undergraduate programs
  • Ensure quality, rigor, and mission alignment in individual courses and continuity across academic departments within the school
  • Ensure courses are developed and taught following pedagogical best practices that adhere to University Policy and result in excellent educational experiences for our students
  • Guide new program development and expansion of undergraduate online initiatives.
  • Partner with individual school and campus leaders to interpret, document, and demonstrate compliance with new and ongoing accreditation requirements
  • Evaluate and refine the use of instructional technologies to support faculty and enhance student experience in the classroom and beyond
  • Coordinate undergraduate program initiatives with the university’s nationally recognized Honors College, including the development of honors sections, high-impact curricular pathways, research opportunities, and learning experiences

Faculty & Instructor Engagement

  • Review student evaluations of instructors and courses in partnership with academic department chairs, offering feedback and recommendations to strengthen teaching and learning
  • Use assessment data to identify gaps in teaching, curriculum, and student performance to ensure continuous improvement
  • Support faculty teaching undergraduate courses in course design, assessment, and the use of evidence-based teaching practices
  • Teach two undergraduate courses per year aligned with areas of expertise or programmatic need at the direction of the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Affairs

Communication & Collaboration

  • Build collaborative relationships with school deans, department chairs, faculty, and staff to support program excellence
  • Communicate clearly with students, faculty, and staff regarding program needs, policies, and updates
  • Represent undergraduate programs on cross-campus committees and initiatives as needed

Required Education and Experience:

  • Doctoral degree required in relevant field (i.e., public health, education)
  • A strong record of experience with curriculum and program development, program assessment, and best practices in teaching across different modalities (online, in-person, hybrid)
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching undergraduate courses across multiple modalities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic leadership or program management experience in higher education, with program experience in undergraduate programs strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) Accreditation Standards
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills; ability to manage multiple programs, deadlines, and stakeholders simultaneously
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining a collaborative, team-oriented spirit.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, with a commitment to continuous improvement
