Assistant Dean (Graduate School)
Southern Illinois University Carbondale invites nominations and applications for the position of Assistant Dean of the Graduate School. The Assistant Dean reports to the Associate Dean and Director and is the lead for records, registration and graduation clearances. The successful candidate is expected to support administrative and academic leadership, faculty, staff and students in accordance with the institution’s strategic plan. The position is available June 15, 2026. Review of applications will begin May 22, 2026, but will remain open until filled.
Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
Examples of Duties
The Assistant Dean is a key administrative position in the graduate school, acts on behalf of the Dean in the Dean's absence, and plays a lead role in student advisement, marketing, orientation, workshops, and supervises graduate registration, records and the graduation clearance units. The Assistant Dean supports the Dean by providing reports via the Banner system on applications, admissions, enrollment, and graduation. The Assistant Dean serves as implementation leader of the Proquest database and reviews dissertation and theses for formatting requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree required, plus at least 3 years of professional experience in a higher education setting with graduate programs. Plus demonstrated communication, mathematical and interpersonal skills; knowledge of and experience with graduate records and registration, policy compliance and student advisement; demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning and vision development; demonstrated supervisory and organizational skills; strong problem solving skills that aid the accomplishment of goals/objectives; experience in diversity training/education initiatives and recruitment; commitment to cultural diversity, and equal opportunity (e.g., demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in diversity and cultural competency).
Preferred Qualifications: A doctoral degree combined with demonstrated problem solving skills that aid the accomplishment of goals/objectives, knowledge of strategic planning and vision development, supervisory skills, and cultural competency.
