Position Purpose The Assistant Director is responsible for assisting the Director with the overall operation of the Center, including meeting the needs of families and supporting program operations, curriculum implementation, enrollment, staff recruitment and hiring, office administration, and staff supervision. This role is also responsible for developing and/or coordinating professional development opportunities and ensuring compliance with New Hampshire Child Care Licensing requirements.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
Masters plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Masters degree in early childhood education or related field preferred.
- Minimum of five years of teaching young children in a professional setting.
- Minimum of five years of supervisory or management experience.

- Good understanding of office systems, including records maintenance and staff scheduling
- Proven ability to maintain confidentiality

Key Accountabilities
Staffing and Supervision (40%)
- Oversee center-wide staffing patterns and ensure appropriate teacher-child ratios are maintained
- Participate in orientation of new staff
- Create and/or coordinate professional development opportunities
- Assist with office coverage as needed
- Participate in interviews and hire for Dartmouth College Child Care Center positions
- Participate in staff supervision and performance evaluations
- Interview and hiring temporary staff as needed
- Consult with individual teachers and teaching teams as needed
Classroom and Curriculum (30%)
- With Director, develops and oversees the center’s curriculum and early education program
- With Director, develops and implements the center’s child assessment system
- Oversee and evaluates classrooms and acts as a resource to teaching teams
- Works with teaching staff to adapt programming to meet the needs of individual children and their families
Office and Center Administration (10%)
- May develop and convene Center committees, disseminates committee agenda and notes
- Reports concerns to the Director and assists with issue resolution
- Ensure that childcare licensing standards are met
- Acts on behalf of the Director in his/her absence and by request
- Monitors building maintenance services
Family Relations (10%)
- Assists with orientation for new staff
- Coordinates with staff to ensure families receive appropriate support.
- Assists with communication with families including newsletters, website, and center communications.
Culture and Employee Belonging (10%)
- Demonstrates a commitment to inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
