Job Summary
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Provides advising and support to chapters and counsel leaders affiliated with the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life and the sorority and fraternity community.
- Responsible for student organization advising, serving as a liaison to chapter leaders, and developing and implementing assigned programs and initiatives focused on leadership development, involvement and belonging.
- Oversees risk management initiatives within OSFL including the event registration process, working collaboratively with council officers, and assisting with risk management training and support.
- Coordinates and implements new member educator/intake coordinator training annually.
- Responsible for collecting and reviewing new member education and intake plans and assisting with hazing prevention initiatives.
- Responsible for working collaboratively with the Associate Director and team to oversee sanctions tracking, completion and evaluation.
- Serves as a liaison to a portfolio of chapters serving as a Chapter Coach, providing support and resources to student leaders and officers within the organization to promote student engagement.
- Assists with conduct-related matters as needed, including cease and desist meetings and regular meetings with the Office of Student Conduct.
- Coordinates standards and accountability training for chapter leaders and council officers.
- Provides education and support to assist chapters with compliance of the Office of Sorority and Fraternity Life and university policies.
- Fosters student learning, development, and enhanced educational experiences through direct service (advising, meeting, officer support).
- Meets 1-on-1 with students, advisors, and alumni volunteers as needed to provide them with advising support and assistance.
- Provides appropriate referrals for students to other offices or agencies when assistance needed is beyond scope of responsibility.
- Assists in hiring, training, and development of undergraduate staff and graduate practicum students and/or interns.
General Responsibilities
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at improving student engagement and involvement outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.
- Interfaces directly with students, attending student life events and programs and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student life initiatives and objectives.
- Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as student organization leaders, on shared student life goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student life initiatives.
- Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student life initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
- Provides guidance to student organizations regarding operations, budget, leadership, activities, recruitment, registration, policies, and compliance. Promotes leadership and student development through advising of individual student leaders and volunteers. Contributes to formation, interpretation, and implementation of student organization policies.
- Plans and coordinates communications for student life initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.
- May provide guidance to other Student Life Specialists; makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
