Assistant Director of Annual Giving

Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director of Annual Giving is responsible for implementing and managing key components of MSOE’s annual giving program. This position plays a lead role in executing multi-channel campaigns, coordinating signature giving initiatives, overseeing donor outreach programs, and supporting strategies that enhance donor acquisition, retention, and participation across alumni, parents, faculty/staff, students, and other key constituencies.

The Assistant Director partners closely with the Director of Annual Giving to analyze giving trends, support segmentation strategies, and bolster donor engagement. This role also manages student philanthropy initiatives, phonathon operations, and targeted communication efforts to strengthen the culture of philanthropy at MSOE.

Essential Job Functions

Annual Giving Campaigns & Communications

  • Implement annual giving campaigns across direct mail, email, social media, and digital platforms to support donor participation and revenue goals.
  • Draft, refine, and coordinate the review and proofing of solicitation content tailored to specific donor groups including alumni, parents, faculty/staff, and young alumni.
  • Manage campaign timelines, project flow, and production schedules.
  • Work with Advancement Operations to analyze campaign performance metrics and provide recommendations to improve outcomes.
  • Work with University Advancement Marketing and University Marketing and Communications to ensure consistent branding and messaging for annual giving communications.

Signature Annual Giving Initiatives

  • Support the Director of Annual Giving in the planning and coordination of Giving Day, including communication planning, unit collaboration, and donor engagement strategies.
  • Work with Advancement Operations and Director of Annual Giving to track event metrics and assist in post-event analysis and reporting, ensuring alignment with University Advancement counting and reporting standards.

Phonathon Management & Donor Outreach

  • Oversee daily operations of the student phonathon program including recruiting, hiring, training, and supervising 15–25 student callers. This responsibility includes evening and weekend periods during specific time periods.
  • Develop call scripts, donor segments, and calling strategies that align with annual giving goals.
  • Track nightly phonathon performance and produce weekly reports on contact rates, pledges, fulfillment, and ROI.
  • Foster a positive and productive environment for student callers.

Student Philanthropy & Senior Giving

  • Lead or co-lead student giving and crowdfunding-style projects annually.
  • Coordinate the Senior Giving Campaign, including messaging, materials, digital outreach, and results tracking.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Student Life and Admissions to integrate philanthropy education into campus programs.

Faculty & Staff Giving Campaign Support

  • Under the direction of the Director of Annual Giving, manage communication, segmented outreach, and stewardship for the annual Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign.
  • Track participation and assist with strategies that increase internal giving and employee engagement.

Annual Giving Operations, Data & Reporting

  • Maintain annual giving project plans; reporting dashboards; and policy, process, and procedure, documentation.
  • Support annual fund donor stewardship activities including drafting acknowledgement letter content, President’s Circle recognition and efforts that focus on retention and renewal of annual fund donors.
  • Request data pulls, segmentation, and campaign analytics.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in and provide support for University Advancement events and activities, which may include weekend or evening hours on occasion.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners to strengthen engagement and donor participation strategies.
  • Assist in addressing constituent questions about annual giving opportunities and impact.
