Department Summary
The UCLA School of Law, located in Los Angeles, California, is one of the top-ranked law schools in the United States. Founded in 1949, it has built a reputation for academic excellence, diversity, and innovation in legal education. The school offers a wide range of programs, including Juris Doctor (JD), Master of Laws (LLM), and Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD) degrees, MLS (Master of Legal Studies), as well as joint degree programs in collaboration with other UCLA departments.
Position Summary
Under the general guidance of the Senior Director of Career Services, incumbent will develop and coordinate job opportunities, provide employment counseling, and provide career education for law students and alumni.
Qualifications
- Experience counseling students individually and in group situations regarding types of careers available within the legal profession. (Required)
- Experience assisting students and alumni in developing appropriate job search skills and strategies to achieve their employment goals. (Required)
- Experience analyzing and organizing information. (Required)
- Knowledge of career opportunities in the legal community, including substantive areas of practice and market trends. (Required)
- Ability to understand and communicate the non-traditional uses of the Juris Doctor degree. (Required)
- Skill in employing excellent marketing skills to place law students and alumni with appropriate firms. (Required)
- Skill in setting priorities which accurately reflect the relative importance of goals and job responsibilities and adjusting the priorities as needed. (Required)
- Oral communications skills to communicate effectively and diplomatically with students, alumni, faculty, legal employment community, administration and staff. (Required)
- Skill in listening perceptively and conveying understanding, establishing rapport, gaining trust, motivating others, and stimulating people to effective action. (Required)
- Skill in writing concise, logical and grammatically correct analytical reports and business correspondence. (Required)
- Skill in working independently and as a member of a team. (Required)
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, faculty, administrators, and representatives of the legal community. (Required)
- Skill in interacting effectively with individuals or groups representing various social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds. (Required)
- Excellent oral and written skills to prepare and present professional workshops, panels, presentations, handbooks, handouts, articles and newsletters. (Required)
- Attention to detail. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
- Bachelor's Degree in related areas and/or equivalent combination of education and experience/training (Required)
- Juris Doctor (JD) Degree (Preferred)
Special Conditions for Employment
- Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
- Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
- Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
- Ability to work during peak seasons of activity with frequent interruptions and distractions and emotional tensions of law students and interviewers. (Required)
- Evening and/or weekend work. (Required)
- Limited time off during peak season. (Required)
- Occasional attendance at offsite conferences and meetings. (Required)
Schedule
Monday - Friday | 8:30 AM- 5:30 PM with some evening events
