Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving
The Office of Alumni Engagement & Annual Giving fosters lifelong relationships between Georgia State University and its more than 285,000 alumni worldwide by strengthening affinity, deepening connections to the university, and creating meaningful opportunities for engagement, advocacy, volunteerism, and philanthropy.
Building upon the legacy of the Georgia State Alumni Association, founded in 1929, the office serves alumni across the lifelong engagement continuum and supports alumni and supporters throughout the donor continuum, creating opportunities to stay connected, informed, involved, and invested in Georgia State's future. Whether through alumni programs and events, regional engagement, career and networking initiatives, volunteer service, annual giving campaigns, or donor stewardship efforts, the office provides multiple pathways for alumni and supporters to engage in ways that are meaningful to them.

Job Summary
Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Assistant Director of Digital Fundraising & Engagement serves as the lead strategist and administrator for Annual Giving's digital fundraising, engagement, and donor journey initiatives. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing multichannel fundraising and engagement strategies that increase alumni giving, donor acquisition, donor retention, donor reactivation, volunteer engagement, and philanthropic revenue.
The Assistant Director manages Annual Giving's digital fundraising and engagement technologies, including email marketing, marketing automation, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising, texting, digital stewardship, and related engagement platforms. Working collaboratively with Annual Giving, Alumni Engagement, Advancement Communications, Advancement Services, Advancement IT, and campus partners, this position develops data-informed engagement and fundraising strategies that strengthen the donor pipeline and support institutional fundraising priorities.
The position serves as the operational lead for Georgia State Day, crowdfunding initiatives, peer-to-peer fundraising and engagement programs, digital donor journeys, and emerging fundraising technologies.
Job Duties
Digital Fundraising, Engagement & Donor Journeys
Serve as the primary strategist and administrator for Annual Giving's digital fundraising, engagement, and marketing automation efforts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, implementation, and optimization of constituent engagement and donor journey strategies across Annual Giving initiatives.
- Build, test, schedule, and deploy fundraising and engagement campaigns utilizing Salesforce Marketing Cloud and related marketing automation tools.
- Collaborate with Annual Giving, Alumni Engagement, Advancement Communications, and campus partners to create integrated multichannel fundraising and engagement campaigns.
- Develop automated donor journeys, lifecycle communications, and personalized outreach strategies that strengthen alumni giving and donor retention.
- Collaborate with Annual Giving colleagues to develop digital fundraising strategies that strengthen the annual giving donor pipeline, increase alumni giving, and support the growth of leadership annual giving through donor acquisition, retention, reactivation, and donor upgrades.
- Configure and manage dynamic content, personalization rules, and marketing automation workflows.
- Conduct quality assurance testing, including personalization validation, link review, rendering checks, and constituent experience testing.
- Maintain campaign documentation, deployment standards, and operational procedures.
- Partner with Advancement IT, Advancement Services, and data teams to support campaign execution and ensure data integrity.
- Serve as the primary administrator for Annual Giving's digital fundraising and engagement technologies, including email marketing, text messaging, stewardship, and related platforms.
- Implement digital stewardship strategies that enhance the donor experience and support donor retention efforts.
- Evaluate and recommend emerging fundraising technologies and engagement solutions that support institutional goals.
Georgia State Day, Crowdfunding & Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Programs
Serve as the project manager and strategic lead for institutional peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives, including Georgia State Day and crowdfunding programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as project manager and strategic lead for Georgia State Day and related institutional fundraising campaigns.
- Manage university crowdfunding initiatives and serve as the primary platform administrator.
- Coordinate project recruitment, onboarding, readiness reviews, training, and campaign launches.
- Recruit, train, steward, and support peer-to-peer fundraising volunteers, ambassadors, advocates, and project champions.
- Develop and manage peer-to-peer fundraising and engagement strategies that expand campaign reach, increase donor engagement, and drive philanthropic support.
- Create volunteer communication plans, engagement strategies, toolkits, and training resources.
- Partner with colleges, schools, units, and campus organizations to develop crowdfunding and peer-to-peer fundraising strategies.
- Collaborate with Advancement Communications to implement integrated promotional and fundraising campaigns.
- Monitor fundraising activity and provide real-time recommendations during active campaigns.
- Conduct post-campaign assessments, evaluate outcomes, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
- Maintain vendor relationships and oversee platform optimization and utilization.
- Provide training, consultation, and best-practice guidance to campus partners on digital fundraising, crowdfunding, peer-to-peer fundraising, and donor engagement strategies.
- Serve as a strategic resource and consultant for campus partners seeking to implement crowdfunding or peer-to-peer fundraising initiatives.
Analytics, Innovation & Strategic Planning
Support data-informed decision-making, innovation, and continuous improvement across Annual Giving initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilizing reports, dashboards, and analyses to evaluate fundraising and engagement performance.
- Monitor and analyze key performance indicators including donor acquisition, donor retention, donor reactivation, engagement rates, campaign performance, volunteer activity, and philanthropic revenue.
- Identify trends and provide recommendations to improve fundraising effectiveness and constituent engagement.
- Develop and implement digital engagement strategies that support constituent movement through the philanthropic lifecycle, including acquisition, retention, reactivation, and long-term donor engagement.
- Research and apply industry best practices in annual giving, donor engagement, digital fundraising, and constituent experience.
- Evaluate, test, and implement artificial intelligence, predictive analytics, and emerging technologies that improve campaign effectiveness, donor engagement, content development, and operational efficiency.
- Recommend process improvements that enhance fundraising results and constituent experience.
- Support the achievement of Annual Giving fundraising goals through the development, execution, and optimization of digital fundraising and engagement strategies.
- Assist with strategic initiatives, special projects, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Annual Giving.
Qualifications
Minimum Hiring Standards:
- Bachelor's degree in strategic communications/marketing and five years of related experience; or a combination of education and related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 2 years of higher education experience
- Experience supporting marketing automation platforms, preferably Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), including Email Studio, Journey Builder and Content Builder
- Strong technical knowledge of email marketing best practices, audience segmentation, personalization, and familiarity with SQL and HTML/CSS.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical issues
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate technical concepts to users with varying levels of expertise.
