Assistant Director of Enrollment Marketing

General Information

The Assistant Director of Enrollment Marketing is a versatile storyteller who identifies and captures compelling student, faculty, and alumni stories, building strong campus relationships to ensure representation of the full JMU experience. This role creates written content and supporting assets for multiple mediums, including web, print, email, social platforms, and video, working closely with designers, videographers, and digital specialists so the marketing team can efficiently execute campaigns and highlight JMU's programs and student experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Identify and capture compelling student, faculty and alumni stories that support recruitment and elevate the JMU experience.
  • Write and edit engaging enrollment marketing content across web, email, print and social media platforms.
  • Conduct interviews and build relationships with students, faculty and campus partners to uncover authentic stories and experiences.
  • Create strategic, audience-focused messaging that aligns with enrollment goals and brand priorities.
  • Collaborate with designers, photographers, videographers and digital teams to execute integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Develop and maintain enrollment web content and ensure messaging consistency across platforms
  • Recommend innovative content ideas, storytelling approaches and creative strategies to improve engagement.
  • Manage multiple projects, timelines and deliverables while ensuring quality and accuracy with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Experience in marketing, communications, digital media, or content strategy required, providing expertise in story development, multimedia asset management, and digital engagement.
  • Experience in higher education, enrollment marketing, or mission-driven organizations preferred, with familiarity in audience-focused content creation.
  • Strong storytelling instincts; ability to identify and develop compelling student, faculty, and alumni narratives.
  • Advanced writing skills for concise and mid-length content, including student and faculty profiles, news headlines, video scripts, etc.
  • Experience with writing-focused content creation across multiple platforms (print and digital).
  • Comfort conducting interviews and engaging with students, faculty, and alumni to gather content and insights.
  • Comfort gathering, organizing, and preparing content for web publishing and multi-channel use.
  • Familiarity with digital platforms, social media trends, and web content best practices.
  • Creative problem-solving and strategic thinking to recommend content approaches aligned with enrollment goals.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple content pipelines and coordinate assets across stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate and build strong relationships across campus to identify stories and ensure representation of all experiences.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve strategic objectives.

Additional Consideration:

  • Basic multimedia editing knowledge a plus (video, photo, web or graphics)
