Assistant Disbursements Manager
Description
The Assistant Disbursements Manager serves as a leader within the Accounts Payable section of the University Accounting Office.
Working closely with the Disbursements Manager, this position ensures that financial transactions and accounts payable operations are performed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with federal, state, and UNC System regulations. This position will also assist with implementing cash management policies, payroll processing, and developing a proactive approach to ensure payment policies and terms are met while providing exceptional customer service.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The University Accounting Office is organized as a unit of the Division of Business and Finance with direct reporting responsibilities to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance/Controller. The University Accounting Office has the functional responsibilities for the following operations:
- General Accounting and State fund reporting
- Foundation Accounting
- Accounts Payable
- University Travel Office
- Tax Compliance and Reporting
The mission of the Accounting Office is to provide an effective and efficient financial reporting and cash management/disbursement operation within the Controller's office, which supports the instructional and research mission of the University.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or Associate's degree in accounting; or Associate's degree in business or related discipline with 12 credit hours of accounting coursework; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2 years of leadership/supervisory experience.
- Strong personal computer and business solutions software (e.g. Banner Finance) skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with internal teams, auditors, and provide clear and concise information related to accounts payable or payroll records.
- Ability to manage and organize large volumes of records, both physical and electronic, ensuring compliance with applicable requirements.

- Capable to handle complex vendor issues with accurate information according to compliance regulations.
- Proactive and results-oriented with strong problem-solving skills.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently and in team settings.
- Ability to effectively communicate, particularly in explaining complex accounts payable concepts to employees and senior management.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with unplanned interruptions.
- Adaptable and willing to learn new technologies.

This position may be eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement, consistent with university and state policies. N.C. A&T employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
