Responsibilities:
The Assistant Manager role involves comprehensive management and maintenance of lab resources. This role is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency of equipment, handling requests for lab facilities, proposing annual budgets for equipment replacement, managing consumable supplies, overseeing access rights, and conducting general lab maintenance.
The position also entails maintaining accurate records of assets, managing asset loans, transfers, and disposals, as well as assisting faculty and Final Year Project supervisors in sourcing and evaluating new equipment/software.
Additionally, the role involves configuring equipment setups, administering servers and virtual desktop environments, providing technical support to users, and ensuring the proper functioning of servers, workstations, laptops, and software installations. This role will contribute to improving operational effectiveness and quality service through the application of process improvements.
Lab Management and Maintenance:
- Oversee end-to-end lab operations to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and readiness of all equipment and facilities
- Govern lab utilisation and service requests, ensuring efficient allocation and timely fulfilment of resources
- Propose and manage annual budgets for equipment replacement and upgrade
- Maintain and monitor the stock of consumables required for daily lab activities.
- Establish and enforce policies on lab usage, access control, and safety compliance in alignment with institutional standards
- Conduct general maintenance for lab infrastructure, including air-conditioning, lighting, and fittings.
Asset Management and Procurement:
- Maintain accurate records of all lab assets and IT equipment.
- Manage processes for asset loans, transfers, and disposals.
- Partner with faculty and research teams to evaluate, benchmark, and recommend emerging technologies, equipment, and software solutions
- Ensure quality assurance, documentation, and compliance for all incoming assets
Technical Support and Infrastructure Management:
- Set up and configure lab equipment, servers, workstations, and virtual desktop environments.
- Provide email, remote, and onsite technical support to end users.
- Ensure all systems and equipment comply with the prevailing NTU IT policies.
- Review and manage lab centralised equipment infrastructure design.
Process Improvement & Workflow Optimisation:
- Assess and redesign operational workflows to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and overall service delivery effectiveness
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related discipline
- Diploma holders with significant relevant experience are welcome to apply.
- Proven hands-on experience in software installation, hardware troubleshooting, and server administration in diverse IT environments.
- Demonstrates strong proficiency in managing Linux-based systems, including the ability to install and configure Linux distributions, file system management, and troubleshooting basic Linux system issues
- Proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Stays up to date with the latest developments in IT systems, tools, and technologies.
- Strong ability to work independently, while also collaborating effectively as part of a team.
