Assistant Manager/Manager, NUS News

Job Purpose

The Office of University Communications (UCO) works to enhance the reputation of the National University of Singapore through communications strategies that raise the University's profile in Singapore and globally. UCO is seeking an experienced communications professional to drive the editorial production and manage the daily operations of NUS News, the University’s official news portal, and its related digital platforms.

The successful candidate will be tasked with producing, curating and overseeing compelling content to publicise the University’s developments in research, education, sustainability, and innovation, while showcasing its impactful societal contributions and vibrant campus life. The ideal candidate will be a digitally savvy content specialist with strong project management skills, capable of managing multiple priorities and maintaining high editorial standards.

Job Description

The candidate will:

  • Write, produce and edit a diverse range of content such as news articles, features and profiles, on topics spanning key University announcements, leadership appointments, faculty awards, as well as institutional achievements
  • Develop and produce coverage for major events on the University calendar, ensuring timely and accurate reporting that aligns with its core publicity objectives
  • Develop and deliver content for NUS News feature series, from identifying compelling profiles and angles to overseeing the write-ups and photoshoots
  • Lead key communication projects, such as the annual year-end round-up of key University highlights and milestones, presenting the content in an engaging and visually appealing format
  • Take on special publications projects from time to time, as assigned
  • Copy-edit articles to ensure consistency in language, accuracy and clarity, as well as adherence to the University's house style
  • Manage the NUS News email and social platforms, including disseminating its fortnightly email newsletter and delivering daily bite-sized news updates for the Telegram channel
  • Create and adapt content for the University's main social media platforms to drive engagement and amplify key messages
  • Oversee inquiries and requests from internal and external stakeholders on the NUS News mailbox and manage external vendors to support the platform’s editorial and production needs

The ideal candidate must be able to work independently, while being a good team player. He or she needs to be mature, proactive, organised, meticulous, able to multi-task, and work within tight deadlines.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in communications, public relations, in-house corporate communications, journalism or related areas. Prior experience working within a higher education institution or a similar environment will be an advantage.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality content for various platforms and audiences
  • Strong news sense and a keen attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong understanding of digital media, including content management systems, email marketing tools (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Canva), and social media platforms
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively both within and across teams
