Assistant or Associate Professor of Anesthesiology
The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine at The University of Tennessee invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in Veterinary Anesthesia at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. Responsibilities of the faculty include small and large animals’ clinical service; clinical and didactic teaching of anesthesia and analgesia to professional students, interns and residents; development of a basic science or clinical research program commensurate with effort allocation; and participation in continuing education at the local and national level.
The anesthesia service provides anesthetic care for patients primarily in the small animal and large animal hospitals with occasional exotic animals. The University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center (VMC) is equipped with all the resources and expertise of specialty services needed to provide first class patient care, teaching, and clinical and basic science research. The VMC has a comprehensive ICU and four faculty members board certified in Veterinary Emergency Medicine and Critical Care; a minimally invasive procedures unit and faculty members with expertise in endoscopy, laparoscopy, and stenting; a state-of-the-art physical therapy facility including hyperbaric oxygen therapy; and onsite stem cell development. Clinical services are supported by excellent clinical pathology and diagnostic pathology departments. A full-time Veterinary Social Work program offers counseling services for clients, faculty, staff, and students. Other support services include behavior and nutrition.
Qualifications
Requirements for the applicant include a DVM or equivalent degree, completion of a formal residency in veterinary anesthesiology, and certification or eligibility for certification by the American or European College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia.
