Position Description
The Department of Counseling, Leadership, Adult Education, and School Psychology (CLAS) in the College of Education at Texas State University, located in San Marcos, Texas, invites applications for a non-tenure-earning Assistant or Associate Professor of Instruction position of Human Resource Development & Learning in Organizations. This position involves teaching, research, service, and program support in a vibrant Bachelor’s degree program in Central Texas. Specific responsibilities include teaching courses in Human Resource Development and providing service to the program, department, university, and profession.
Program:
The Bachelor of Science in Human Resource Development & Learning in Organizations prepares students for success in careers including training, talent development, career development, organizational development, and related areas. This position will include teaching core courses in our program, with a particular focus on teaching ADED 4322. Foundations of Human Resources Development, ADED 4321. Introduction to Adult Learning, ADED 3305. Career Development in Human Resource Development, ADED 4330. Adult Education Program Planning and Management, ADED 3344. Multicultural Perspectives in Adult Learning and Human Resource Development, and/or ADED 4343. Organization Development. The successful candidate will be headquartered on the San Marcos campus.

The CLAS Department serves approximately 1,100 students seeking undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral degrees in Professional Counseling (COUN), Educational and Community Leadership (EDCL), Adult, Professional, and Community Education (APCE), School Psychology (SPSY), Student Affairs in Higher Education (SAHE), Human Resource Development & Learning in Organizations (HRDLO), and Integrated Studies (INTS). The CLAS Department provides high-quality undergraduate and graduate education to promote significant transformational changes in communities, schools, organizations, and institutions locally and globally. Required Qualifications
Required qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:
- An earned doctorate in Human Resource Development, Adult Education, or Related Field (i.e., leadership studies or organizational communication-if the candidate has extensive coursework completed related to adult learning or human resource development) by employment date.
- A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
- A demonstrated record of excellence in service at university, college, department, program, professional, and/or community levels.
- Evidence of potential for continued growth (e.g., professional development or conference attendance, innovative teaching strategies, engagement in research).
Required qualifications for Associate Professor rank:
- An earned doctorate in Human Resource Development, Adult Education, or Related Field (i.e., leadership studies or organizational communication-if the candidate has extensive coursework completed related to adult learning or human resource development) by employment date.
- Five or more years of full-time experience teaching in higher education.
- A demonstrated record of excellence in teaching.
- A demonstrated record of excellence in service at university, college, department, program, professional, and/or community levels.
- Evidence of potential for increase leadership in teaching and instructional activities (e.g., program service, mentoring new faculty, teaching awards, program recruitment, other service, engagement in grant writing).
- A demonstrated record of developing course content. The applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on university and department established standards, inclusive of a recommendation by the department’s Personnel Committee.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred qualifications for Assistant Professor rank:
- Preparedness to teach core human resource development courses such as: ADED 4322. Foundations of Human Resources Development, ADED 4321. Introduction to Adult Learning, ADED 3305. Career Development in Human Resource Development, ADED 4330. Adult Education Program Planning and Management, ADED 3344. Multicultural Perspectives in Adult Learning and Human Resource Development, and/or ADED 4343. Organization Development.
- Professional experience as a practitioner in training, organization development, career development or other human resource development areas.
- A record of, or the demonstration of the potential for, research in adult education or human resource development publication.
- A record of, or the demonstration of the potential for, seeking or securing external grants, contracts, and other revenue sources to advance and sustain programmatic efforts in the subject area.
- Experience in writing/developing online academic courses and programs.
- Ability to advise undergraduate students in the HRD program.
- Ability to articulate a vision for the growth of HRD programs at Texas State University.
Preferred qualifications for Associate Professor rank:
- Experience in teaching core human resource development courses such as: ADED 4322. Foundations of Human Resources Development, ADED 4321. Introduction to Adult Learning, ADED 3305. Career Development in Human Resource Development, ADED 4330. Adult Education Program Planning and Management, ADED 3344. Multicultural Perspectives in Adult Learning and Human Resource Development, and/or ADED 4343. Organization Development.
- Professional experience as a practitioner in training, organization development, career development, or other human resource development areas.
- A documented record of sustained research and publication in adult education or human resource development.
- A documented record of seeking and securing external grants, contracts, and other revenue sources to advance and sustain programmatic efforts in the subject area.
- Experience in writing/developing online academic courses and programs.
- Experience with advising undergraduate students.
- Demonstrated pattern of attending conferences related to adult education, human resource development, and effective teaching.
- Awards or recognition for excellence in teaching.
- Ability to articulate a vision for the growth of HRD programs at Texas State University.
