About the Job
The Assistant Professor position is responsible for carrying out the teaching, research and service mission of the department. The current teaching load for research-active faculty is 10 semester credits per academic year. The teaching assignments can be at both the undergraduate and graduate level with a mixture of managerial and technical courses. The department has a core teaching presence in all programs: undergraduate, full and part-time MBA, Masters in Business Analytics, and executive education. There is also an expectation of advising at the PhD level. On the research mission, faculty are expected to develop and maintain a strong research program that contributes to the IS discipline. The chosen candidate will also be expected to take part in a range of departmental, school, and university service activities commensurate with rank.
Qualifications
This is an entry-level tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must have a strong research program and earned a doctorate in information systems or a related field with demonstrated IS competence. The doctorate must be completed by August 23, 2027, or before the appointment date (whichever comes first).
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates should demonstrate potential for a strong research program with publication(s) and work-in-progress in leading information systems journals and related disciplinary outlets; excellence in teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; interest in doctoral advising; and commitment to departmental, school, and professional service.
About the Department
The University of Minnesota is well known as one of the founding schools for the MIS discipline and is home to the MIS Quarterly. The new faculty member will benefit from the research and outreach activities of the Management Information Systems Research Center, the Carlson Analytics Lab, and the Analytics for Good Institute.
The Information and Decision Sciences Department has 15 tenured and tenure-track faculty. The department conducts research and teaches across information systems, business analytics, and artificial intelligence, with particular strengths in AI and machine learning, human-AI collaboration and algorithmic decision-making, recommender systems and personalization, causal inference and experimentation, digital platforms and online communities, data privacy and trustworthy AI, health information technology, and the economic, social and organizational impacts of digital technologies. The department is home to the M.S. in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (MSBAi) program and online Master of Applied Business Analytics (MABA) program. At the undergraduate level, the department offers the Management Information Systems (MIS) major and minor, the Business Analytics minor, and the Business Analytics co-major. There is an active doctoral program in information systems with 12 students in residence. The department's Management Information Systems program is ranked 5th in the nation at the undergraduate level and 7th in the nation at the MBA level (U.S. News & World Report, [contact details available in the full listing]). The M.S. in Business Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (MSBAi) program is ranked 13th among U.S. programs and 5th among U.S. public universities by the 2026 QS Business Master's Rankings in Business Analytics. Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $205,000 to $220,000 depending on education/qualifications/experience
