Assistant Professor, Ancient Greek & Roman Studies (Limited Term Appointment)
Trent University invites applications for a one-year (12 months) limited term appointment in the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing August 15, 2026. This position is located at the Peterborough Campus and is subject to budgetary approval. The applicable salary scale can be found in the Trent University Faculty Association Collective Agreement and will be determined closer to the start date, in accordance with the Agreement.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in Ancient Greek and Roman Studies, Classics, or a closely related field with an active research, publication, and teaching record. Experience teaching courses in literature and ancient languages of the Mediterranean is preferable. This is a teaching intensive position, with responsibilities including contributing to course delivery and curriculum development and providing service in the Ancient Greek & Roman Studies Program.
The successful candidate should have a demonstrated capacity for excellence in undergraduate teaching. The position has a teaching load of three in-person courses in the fall term and four in-person courses in the winter term, as follows:
Fall (3 courses)
- LATN 1000H Elementary Latin I
- GREK 2000H Intermediate Greek I
- One of AGRS 3355H Current Topics in Ancient Literature; AGRS3320H Tragedy in the Ancient World; AGRS3330H Comedy in the Ancient World; AGRS3351H Fantasy and Adventure in the Ancient World
Winter (4 courses)
- LATN 1001H Elementary Latin II
- LATN 3000H Advanced Latin
- GREK 2001H Intermediate Greek II
- AGRS 2303H Approaches to Ancient Literature
