Assistant Professor, Architecture
Job Summary
The selected candidate will work as a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the Architecture department specializing in foundational architecture courses that support Architecture program students. The successful applicant will join a robust department where faculty members are reflective practitioners and knowledgeable instructors in architecture. Faculty members at Salt Lake Community College support students seeking to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university by developing and maintaining high-quality, industry-standard curricula that provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in future careers.
All Faculty will maintain an on-site campus presence to encourage in-person relationships and create engaging, meaningful, and impactful learning experiences.
Faculty are required to maintain professional boundaries with all SLCC students.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
TEACHING
Under general supervision, the faculty member will prepare and teach a combination of traditional lecture/lab, hybrid (on-campus/online), remote broadcast, and/or fully online courses as assigned by the department. This position will include the development and teaching of foundational architecture courses that support all Architecture program students. The faculty member will teach an average of 15 instructional units per semester (approximately 18 hours of in-class time per week during Fall and Spring semesters) in the Architecture program within the Architecture department Salt Lake Community College.
- Creates an effective, supportive learning environment for students regardless of delivery method.
- Teaches courses consistent with department procedures, the appropriate Course Curriculum Outline (CCO), and catalog description.
PROFESSIONAL
The faculty member will become familiar with and abide by all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the college.
SERVICE
The faculty member will serve their program, department, school, college, and the larger community by attending both general and discipline-specific forums and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications
- NAAB Accredited degree (B-Arch, M-Arch or D-Arch)
- 3 years experience--working under the supervision of a licensed architect
Preferred Qualifications
- LEED AP accreditation
- Residential and commercial architecture experience
- Architecture license
- Teaching experience
