Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor (Tenure-Track)

Position Overview

The Department of Neurology seeks a highly motivated PhD researcher to join its faculty. This position is primarily research-focused and is responsible for developing and sustaining an independent, externally funded research program that advances the scientific mission of the department and institution. The successful candidate will collaborate with clinical and basic science faculty, contribute to interdisciplinary initiatives, and support the academic environment through mentorship and scholarly engagement.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a productive, independent research program aligned with departmental priorities.
  • Secure and manage extramural funding through federal, foundation, industry, or other competitive sources.
  • Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research and present findings at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with clinical and translational researchers to advance neuroscience and neurological discovery.
  • Mentor graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, residents, and/or junior faculty as appropriate.
  • Participate in departmental seminars, research meetings, and academic service activities.
  • Contribute to grant review panels, institutional committees, and professional organizations, as appropriate to rank.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulations related to research conduct and human/animal subjects, if applicable.

Secondary / Optional Responsibilities (as applicable)

  • Teach or co-teach graduate or medical student courses or seminars.
  • Support development of core facilities, shared resources, or collaborative research programs.
  • Engage in community outreach or public scholarship related to neuroscience research.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Biomedical Sciences, Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications.
  • Evidence of research productivity and potential for or history of obtaining external funding.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary academic medical environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Established history of independent grant funding (e.g., NIH or equivalent).
  • Experience mentoring trainees or junior investigators.
  • Expertise in areas complementary to existing departmental research strengths.
  • Experience with translational, clinical, or interdisciplinary neuroscience research.

Academic Rank

Rank (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) will be commensurate with experience, scholarly achievement, and funding history.
