Organizational Unit Overview
The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) serves the rehabilitation needs of the 1.4 million people in a 29-county region of eastern North Carolina and is located within ECU Health Rehabilitation Center at ECU Health Medical Center, with Spinal Cord, Traumatic Brain Injury, General Rehab, Pediatric Rehabilitation, and Neuro Rehab Units.
The Centers 75-bed inpatient unit is one of 18 Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Programs in NC that is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF). The Center is also one of the five centers of excellence at ECU Health. ECU Health Medical Center is a JCAHO-accredited Level I Trauma center.
The ECU Brody School of Medicine is partnered with ECU Health Medical Center (formerly Vidant Medical Center). ECU Health Medical Center is the flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. The ECU Health system is also comprised of eight (8) other hospitals throughout eastern North Carolina.
Job Duties
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at East Carolina University (ECU) seeks a Physiatrist to serve as Program Director of its Residency Program. The Program Director will provide strategic leadership for the residency, ensuring ACGME compliance, curriculum development, faculty and resident evaluation, NRMP recruitment, and advancement of scholarly activity, while also delivering patient care in CARF-accredited inpatient and/or outpatient clinical settings. Additional leadership and teaching opportunities are also available depending on individual applicant interests.
Fixed Term (12 month) or Tenure Track position available at the title / rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor.
Contingent upon availability of funds.
Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b. 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS). Additionally, this position offers multiple voluntary options for Medical, Dental, Vision, and Life Insurance as well as various supplemental plans including Critical Illness, Flexible Spending Accounts, Cancer, and Disability.
While this position is not automatically eligible for the NC Teachers and State Employees Retirement System (TSERS), new hires transferring from another North Carolina state agency and current ECU employees transferring internally who had been enrolled in TSERS in their previous employment will continue participation in TSERS. These individuals may be able to elect to participate in ORP if they had not been offered that option at the time of their initial enrollment into TSERS.
Minimum Education/Experience
MD or DO from an appropriately accredited institution, or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina. Board Certified or eligible for board certification in Physical Medicine & Rehab.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation
MD or DO
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
Prefer candidates with Graduate Medical Education (GME) leadership experience.
