Summary
The Department of Criminal Justice at SUNY Brockport invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. We seek a versatile faculty member who can teach a broad range of core courses in our curriculum with preference given to candidates who have expertise in corrections and/or courts and criminal procedure. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to teaching excellence, student engagement, scholarly productivity, and faculty service. This position will begin in August of 2027.
Job Functions
Essential Functions
Teaching (50%)
- Expected 3-3 course load (4-4 course load with a 1-1 course release for an active program of scholarship). For these purposes, a course refers to a 3-credit course or equivalent.
- Teaches undergraduate courses in criminology and criminal justice.
- Engages in experiential and hands-on education.
- Provides academic advising and mentorship to students.
Scholarship and Service (50%)
- Scholarly Activity
- Engages in discipline specific scholarly activity to produce scholarly publications and related scholarly/creative work:
- Produces scholarly publications in peer-reviewed national or international journals, conduct professional presentations at regional and national conferences, and engages in other scholarly/creative activities.
- Service
- Engages in enrollment and retention initiatives.
- Attends University events.
- Provides service to the department, University, community, and profession.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Ph.D. in criminology, criminal justice, sociology, or a closely related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university. ABD (all but dissertation) hires must earn their doctoral degree within six months of appointment.
- Evidence of scholarly activities in criminology and criminal justice.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and diverse learning environment.
- Ability to effectively engage faculty, staff, and students collegially and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to teach courses in corrections and/or courts and criminal procedure.
- J.D. (in addition to the Ph.D.) or substantial professional experience in the courts or corrections field.
