The Faculty of History wishes to recruit a Temporary Assistant Professor in Twentieth-Century U.S. History, specialising in social or cultural history. This is a fixed term 12 month Temporary Assistant Professor covering academic leave.The successful candidate must normally hold, by the start of the appointment, a doctorate in a relevant field and have outstanding abilities in teaching and research. They will have an exceptional record of research and publications for their career stage and be able to demonstrate a firm commitment to teaching and supervision. They will have a developing bibliography of research publications relating to the 20th Century U.S. History.

Candidates will have a willingness to undertake management and administrative duties and experience of organising and participating in collaborative teaching and research. They will be expected to make a significant contribution to teaching supervising and examining for across a range of Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses within the Faculty The postholder will contribute to the MPhil in American History. They will be expected to supervise MPhil dissertations and examine at MPhil level. The postholder will assess and register PhD students and may also be called upon to serve as internal examiner of PhDs.

The appointee will be expected to participate in the Faculty's renowned American History Seminar https://www.hist.cam.ac.uk/theme/american-history

The postholder will contribute to the administration of the undergraduate and postgraduate courses and they may also be expected to take on one of the smaller administrative roles in the Faculty.

Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term until 30 September 2026 or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
