Assistant Professor in Arts Education (Limited Term, 12 months)
The Faculty of Education at Wilfrid Laurier University invites applications for a limited term appointment (12 month) faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Arts Education in the Bachelor of Education program (Brantford and Waterloo campuses) beginning July 1, 2026, subject to budgetary approval. Anticipated Salary Range: $90,000 to $110,000. Actual salary to be commensurate with experience.
Description of the Faculty: The Faculty of Education, established in 2007, began with a small core faculty offering one program: the Bachelor of Education, Primary/Junior division. The Faculty has grown in size and scope with the addition the Bachelor of Education, Junior/Intermediate division; Master of Education (Interdisciplinary and Student Affairs field); PhD in Educational Studies; International Education Studies (in collaboration with the Faculty of Arts), Teaching Option, and an Education Minor. In 2022, the Bachelor of Education opened additional cohorts on the Brantford campus. Additionally, the Faculty offers several outreach programs including a Mental Health in the Classroom certificate and Additional Qualifications courses for practicing K to 12 educators.
Within this environment, the Faculty of Education (Brantford and Waterloo Campus) is seeking an Arts Education scholar who uses research and teaching to prepare educational leaders who inspire lives through learning in collaboration with community partners. The scholar will have an active voice in shaping the way the Faculty of Education furthers its strategic goals, contribute to the longer-term vision of the Faculty, and enhance programming to ensure it is relevant and reflective of the society in which students live and work. The Faculty of Education is deeply collaborative; the scholar will have the opportunity to work with other scholars across the Faculty and Laurier including the Centre for Leading Research in Education.

Description of the role:
- Teach core courses in Arts Education in the Bachelor of Education (e.g., integrating through the arts; arts-related teachable subjects including either instrumental music or vocal music).
- Provide leadership and program development in Arts Education in teacher education.
- Teach courses in other programs in the Faculty of Education (Bachelor of Education, Master of Education, PhD in Educational Studies, Bachelor of Arts in International Education Studies, and/or in the Education Minor programs).
- Engage in an active research program related to Arts Education and/or related fields.
- Engage in leadership and active service to the Faculty and the University.
Qualifications of the role: Successful candidates must:
- Have completed a doctoral program or be in the final stages of completion related to Arts Education.
- Provide evidence of effective teaching of courses related to Arts Education in a post-secondary teacher education context.
- Provide evidence of teaching diverse groups of learners and incorporating equity and inclusion into their pedagogy and practices.
- Have a minimum of three years teaching experience in K-10 contexts with an Arts Education focus.
- Provide evidence of a productive research program in Arts Education and/or related fields appropriate to their rank with a grant and publication record.
- Show evidence of leadership in program development in post-secondary teacher education contexts and/or in national or international educational communities.
- Be eligible for appointment at the Assistant level.
Preference will be given to candidates who:
- Have teaching qualifications, with preference given to candidates holding Ontario College of Teachers certification, including qualifications specifical to teaching in the Arts
- Have teaching experience in Ontario.
