Job Description:
The Music Program in the Department of the Arts at The American
University in Cairo (AUC) invites applications for a full-time,
tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor
starting Fall 2027. We seek a dynamic educator and accomplished
performing scholar who is deeply committed to excellence in
teaching, performance, research, and creative practice. The
successful candidate will teach six courses per academic year
(three courses per semester) and play a key role in shaping the
undergraduate music curriculum, contributing to co-curricular and
public arts events, and engaging actively with Cairo's rich and
diverse cultural landscape.
This position involves advising, service, and committee
responsibilities, as well as a sustained commitment to ongoing
professional research and creative activity.
Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
Teach courses in music theory, music history, performance, and
music technology, with a particular emphasis on:
- Music production and sound engineering
- Sound for visual media (film, television, digital content)
- Mentor music majors and minors in both academic and
professional development.
- Participate in university and public concerts, performances,
and events.
- Maintain an active agenda of research and/or creative output in
their area of specialization.
- Contribute to departmental and university service, including
student recruitment, curriculum development, and academic
advising.
- Prepare, formulate, and evaluate curricula, especially in their
field of expertise.
- Demonstrate the ability to collaborate effectively on
interdisciplinary and cross-cultural projects and initiatives.
Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- A doctorate or PhD in a music-related field.
- A minimum of three years of university level teaching
experience, with demonstrated excellence in teaching both
theoretical and technology-based music courses.
- A strong and consistent record of scholarly and/or creative
work.
- Demonstrated excellence in their area of specialization.
- Strong technical skills in music production software and audio
interfaces.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural academic
environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the North American higher education
system.
- Experience in curriculum development and program building.
- Active engagement in the broader music and arts community.
