GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION
Teach courses in commercial music such as Applied Lessons, Theory, Songwriting, Sight-Singing and Ear Training, Arranging and Composition, and American Music. May also include directing a commercial performing ensemble or teaching Music Business courses. Other responsibilities include recruiting, performing, attending concerts, office hours, committees, professional development, and accepting assigned courses in various modalities.
THE DEPARTMENT
Music facilities include performance halls, amphitheater, practice rooms, digital recording studio. 6 full-time and 3 adjunct instructors. All Steinway School.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Music or Commercial Music
- Experience: Professional performance and teaching experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master’s Degree in Music or Commercial Music
- Experience: Teaching experience at a college or university
SELECTION CRITERIA
Knowledge of commercial music forms, trends, teaching styles, compositional techniques, music business, ADA standards. Ability to teach applied lessons, theory, aural skills; recruit students; perform; collaborate; use technology including Dorico, Reason, Musescore.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Sedentary desk work with occasional field trips. Standard office setting.
