Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology
This position will have responsibilities in administration, teaching, research and medical service as they pertain to the general mission of Southern Illinois University School of Medicine and the specific needs of the Department of Neurology, Springfield Memorial Hospital, and St. John's Hospital. Responsibilities shall include direct patient care, teaching and work rounds, lectures, and staff education.
I. Administration 5%
- Work with the Springfield Memorial Hospital stroke teams in the management of stroke patients.
- Attend Neurology faculty meetings and participate in SIU, Springfield Memorial Hospital and St John's Hospital committees.
II. Teaching 10%
- Ensure the education and continuing education of residents, faculty and staff in the areas of neurocritical care and stroke.
- Provide lectures, seminars, conferences and teaching rounds for residents and students
- Provide bedside teaching during Attending rounds with residents and students rotating on the Neurocritical care and Stroke Services at SMH.
- Attend Neurology Grand Rounds and present up to one grand rounds per year.
III. Research 5%
- Participate as principal investigator in multicenter and investigator-initiated clinical trials.
- Publish research in peer-reviewed journals and in other suitable scientific media.
IV. Service 80%
- Develop and maintain a professional practice in accordance with departmental policy and the SIU practice plan. This practice includes tertiary care activities in the treatment of stroke and neurocritical care.
- Attend in the Neurocritical Care unit at Springfield Memorial Hospital Monday thru Sunday, (some weeks done concurrently with stroke service, some as Neurocritical care only).
- Attend on the in-patient stroke service at Springfield Memorial Hospital Monday through Sunday.
Qualifications
- Sensitive to the needs of underrepresented minority populations.
- Licensed as a physician in Illinois.
- Board eligible or board certified in Neurology at the time of hire.
- Completion of a two-year fellowship in Neurocritical care at the time of hire.
- Board eligible or board certified in Neurocritical care at the time of hire.
